grooming

Hi ya, I'm a first time sheltie owner.
I'm getting my baby Pip (not sure if she is Pippa, Pippin or Pippy yet) on Saturday.

After visiting this weekend the breeder was talking about tipping her ears with Indian oil and cement?
Also what brushes do you recommend?

Thanks in advance
I've never heard of using cement... so I'm no help there. Usually people use fabric glue (speedsew) or Japanese tape. Your little girl is adorable though :)

Hi! Good to know I'm not the only first-timer around here.
What a lil' cutie you pup is! We're going to need pictures. Lots of pictures.

I've heard about cement being used on collies, but anything that sticks and makes the ears bend works, I guess. (I use a ball of gum or blu-tack at the tip of each ear.)

As for brushes, I asked my Sparta's breeder to show me what and how. She recommended 1) a pin brush (WITHOUT plastic knobs at the ends) or a slicker brush and 2) a fine-toothed comb. First one for work on the general long coat, while the comb is mainly used behind the ears and in other soft spots.

But if you have the chance, it might be useful to ask your breeder to show you proper grooming - at least it was much easier for me to see it in real life than read guides online.

Your little Pip is totally adorable...enjoy!

As already mentioned, fabric glue or tape work well on the ears.

Keep the pictures coming so we can all share in watching little Pip grow up. :smile2:

What an adorable pup! I don't know anything at all about ear gluing, just wanted to say welcome and how sweet that puppy looks.

Hello roguskie and Pip, welcome to the Sheltie Nation. What a great place you landed in and I've just got to say, be still my heart, your little Pip is absolutely adorable. Thanks for sharing her and remember to keep the pictures coming. :smile2:

Your new pup is really adorable. Never heard of the cement. I used false
eyelash glue on Lil' Lady. I loved Lucky's ears one up and one down, as in
WUZ UP? That has always been the expression on his face.

That's an adorable baby! I don't know anything about gluing ears either - we just let Oberon's ears do whatever they would.
