Gypsy Rescue Transport design: coordinating with rescues/attracting participation

Hey Mark, This is great. I know this is a work is progress but even with the ‘Hide if shelter is assumed to be no-kill’ is checked, I see no kill sheltie rescues being returned in the query. Houston sheltie sanctuary, Shetland Sheepdog Placement of New Jersey, Sheltie Zen. I like that ‘Policy’ qualifier for each listing, it’s a quick check to see ‘kill’ in the description and grabs my attention. This is really turning out sweet, great work!

Looking good. The sheltie no. 44 at Gratiot County Pound in Michigan will be going to sheltie rescue as soon as it is available. I have been watching this one and am in contact with local rescue. Is there a way to incorporate craigslist or ebay into the list? I just found a sheltie on eBay advertised as Free. I contacted the local sheltie rescue hoping they can get him. It is not a good idea to give dogs away - they could wind up in a research lab.

As for kill policy inaccuracy, this is one place users will become instrumental. I could only impute so much from the shelter name in code, though users can easily discern the ones that didn't have the good sense to embed 'rescue' in their organization name. (I'll feel pretty dumb if we encounter a kill facility named '%rescue%', btw.)

User editing of shelter policy should be up in a day or two. There will also be a way to designate that a facility is a Sheltie-specific rescue, and eventually even a way to add facilities that aren't in petfinder. (Permissions/abuse prevention are the challenges.)

But right now my priority is getting the petfinder data maintenance on full auto-pilot... with intermittent breaks into playing with the UI (not my forte, as you can see.) :-)

Craigslist and eBay have all kinds of restrictions on what third parties can do with their content -- in a nutshell, they hate it like poison. Petfinder, otoh, not only grants permission to use their data, thery actually provide a way for me to easily obtain it. But I plan to give users a way to create listings that could link to either of those sites, or any other for that matter.

Oh speaking of links, I'm working on adding a way to easily link to a dog on my site. As of 5 minutes ago it looks like I've got it, but it only works right if the dog is on the first page of results. :rolleyes2: I'll get it working pretty soon.

This is absolutely fantastic!

Thanks so much for taking the time to create this site. I am amazed at what a fantastic job you have done.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart.

Dani

Thanks! If the forum is interested in framing it or otherwise linking to it, I'm all in.

All I can say is, wow. It seems very useful, and user-friendly. My only comment is, perhaps it is better to have the location at the top rather than the bottom? I guess if you filter by location it won't matter but most people would look for that first thing.

I can't imagine how much work and time this is taking and I salute you for your efforts. This should be so helpful. Danny'smommy is probably the best person to comment on it since she scans all the Petfinder ads constantly.

Thank you from all the Shelties in shelters.

Yeah I was thinking that too, and also needed to limit how much space a given listing was able to consume. I also decided the petfinder ID likely didn't need to be so prominent...

So I made some changes, take a look when you have a second.
