Gypsy's Kidneys

Dawn, I'm so sorry to hear that Gypsy has been having a hard time of it. That little pumpkin needs a good streak of wellness. Does the vet think that she may be having a reaction to the antibiotics? Was she doing better when you had her off of them? I will continue to hold you both in my prayers.

I think the antibiotics are causing more stress on her Kidneys since she is not able to filter them properly and the toxins are building up but it is a catch 22 since she has some sores from her allergies. We need them healed, I would hate to see her develope staph again. My big concern right now is she is not emptying her bladder as frequently as she normally does. Between yesterday and today every 12-13 hours. I did get her sub q fluids today and she did empty her bladder 2x's so far today so it is better than yesterday. I am hoping she goes prior to bedtime.

I got all her teast results from various tests over this past year and am trying to research as much as I can but all the kidney info seems to be basic that i am finding. I want to get more into the numbers.

Sorry for rambling. I think I am even starting to drive myself crazy at this point.
Thanks for the prayers for Gypsy. I really appreciate them.

I wish there were a magic pill or wand to make her better. It sounds like she is in a medical circle. I don't know if it is toxic to a dog or not but are you able to give her cranberry juice? That is what they always have my mom drink when she gets kidney infections. Maybe it would have the same effect on Gypsy.

Angel has allergies but they are more sinus than itchy. Benadryl does the trick for her. I wish it were that simple for Gypsy. She deserves a break.

I hope the fluids help her to feel better and help her empty her bladder more often. What kind of sores does Gypsy have? At the risk of sounding like an endorsement for an essential oil company, I've read some positive comments about a Young Living Animal Scents Ointment that is supposed to cover and protect infected wounds. I haven't used it personally but I read about it while researching the oils our vet gave me to use on Holly. Maybe it would be worth checking into to help with Gypsy's sores. My prayers to you and your baby .

Thanks for the suggestion but we are also using an antibiotic spray along with her medicated baths. The sores are called pustules. If you look back at my posts from last year you should see some pics although she is not as bad now. She just has one that is not healed yet.

I give Hadley, and all my dogs actually, drops of straight cranberry. I got it at a health food store. I make a gallon of water everyday and put so many drops in it and a cap full of apple cider vinegar. I just fill their bowls up from the jug. Hadley used to pee a million times ( opposite of your problem it sounds like) when we'd be on walks and now she only squats once or twice.

Gypsy went several times a day also and was incontinent. That's why it is so concerning that she is now down to 2x's daily. before unless she was on meds she would lay there and as i say just pee her pants. She was horrified and it wasn't just a small amount it was a plate size wet spot. I even stopped the meds that controlled the incontinence about a month ago.

Thinking of you and Gypsy and sending positive thoughts and prayers your way.

I may have missed it somewhere but have you considered giving her a natural supplement that improves kidney function? I read that herbs like burdock, dandelion and cleavers all aid kidney functions.

I also read about a natural product called Tripsy that it seems some people have had success with:
