Gypsy's urine test

kidney are like a sieve, when damaged, holes get too big so what should not be passed goes through. Microalbumin is just small protein. Test for microalbuminuria is usually 24 hrs for humans and then they can not exercise 24 hrs before and such so if often not conclusive. In those case you gotta look at total picture. Sorry that Gypsy is not feeling well.

Thanks for your input I understand what it is I am trying to find out how severe the numbers are.

I have not used microalbumin test. But high microalbuin in the urine it is an indication of glomerlar disease which are the filtering part of the kidney. The higher the level, the larger than number of those units are involved in the disease process. Like you said it indicates a more severe level of disease. There is a lot of leaking going on. Basically instead of cheesecloth , her kidneys are a colander.

I am sorry Gypsy is having a bad week. Hope you vet can get her feeling better soon Sending many good thoughts and prayers your way.

Thanks Dr. Shelli, in the past her tests have come back saying greater than 30 indicating disease so this time coming back with an exact number 96.2 really has me scared and searching all over for more info which is not out there. I do think this is a new more specific test from info I have found. I am going to pick up the test results tomorrow sometimes when I see them in print I get a better understanding of them. If there is additional info to share I'll be sure to do so.

I am just praying my girl lives to enjoy her new yard and harrass Molly of course.:wink2:

In humans test for microalbuminuria by itself is not significant as what they do or eat will affect numbers- i.e. more muscle work, more protein digested will affect numbers. So by itself test/ numbers do not mean much.
It is worrisome that you actually have clinical symptoms of Gypsy feeling weak and lethargic. That is bad sign.
Is she on kibble?

I am doing a combo of low protein kibble, kidney diet from Lew Olson and Dr. Dodds, it depends on what she will eat that day. All are low phospherous and low protein meals. Additionally, Enalapril, Azodyl, subQ fluids, milk thistle and just ordered more Co Q 10, and give cerenia for nausea. I have also been a member of K9kidneys on yahoo since May so I am going to search there a bit as well for further info.

If anyone knows of anything additionally I should be doing please chime in.
Thank you everyone for your prayers and concerns.

I now have Gypsy's tests in front of me and additionally her PH is a little low at 5.0 ref. range 5.5-7.0 it also says Transitional Epithelia is high at 2-3 reference range 0-1. I know these are cells in urine but don't know what it means when they are high any input is greatly appreciated. Everything else other than what I said yesterday is normal.

Have you posted on the K9KIDNEYS board? I know a lot of people are dealing with glomerlar disease on top of kidney disease, so they may have a lot of advice/suggestions, etc.

But from reading the board, it seems like there's not much you can do, it's just another stage of kidney failure and you have to now deal with things like lower protein.

Not sound advice, just recalling what I've read on that board and everything else.

Yes I have been searching the board for the last couple days about this and haven't found what I am looking for.
