Hadley doesn't seem interested in nursing!

Mary, I am so impressed by the amazing job you are doing for Hadley and these pups, especially considering you did not sign on for being a puppy mom! Hadley and her puppies are SO lucky to be with you and not where they were with that awful woman.

I cannot even imagine cutting 100 nails. Heck, I can't bring myself to cut 12!! :eek2: Bravo!! :biggrin2:

Aw thank you! I know I didn't sign up for it, but I'm in for the long haul. I've never even been around puppies until now-lol! My mom used to breed Boston Terriers long before I was born and she's been a lot of help and I've been emailing her like crazy! I wish she lived closer and she could some see them!

Can't wait to see what the next few weeks will be like... I'll probably be pulling my hair out! hahaha. All the pooping, peeing, crying, etc. etc. Oh well, at least they're cute.

The previous owner is just disgusting. I found out from someone on CL that she sold them a puppy that she said was 8 weeks. When they got it home, it couldn't walk so they rushed it to the vet. Vet said dog was more like 5 weeks at the most and the dog only has 2 teeth! She had other puppies at her house and no mom in sight. Makes you wonder where she got them!?

I do NOT trim puppy nails until they start walking.

If you trim earlier, I've noticed that mommy's tummy is full of scratches, and she likes nursing even worse.

Mom's tummy was already so scratched! My arms were even getting tore up. It does seem to make them sharper when you cut them but being that they aren't dragging across your skin it seems to be helping. Hadley has nursed 4 times as of now. :)

I would say she is a puppy mill broker. They go from the puppy mill to her to sell so they can disguise that they are puppy mill pups. They feel if they are sold from a home most people will believe they are the breeder. Many puppy mills use this method. They could have 1 or 20 people selling their pups like this as well as pet stores.

Yes I cut my puppies as well starting at a week old if not sooner. Those suckers are SHARP!! Poor mom doesnt need to be getting scratched up while nursing! And as an added bonus starting them young they will be used to their feet being handled and touched.

the puppies are getting so cute! Belle went through a period when her pups were about 2 weeks that she didnt want to nurse them. I trimmed their nails which were very sharp, and after that she was better about them nursing.

Yep, I start that young handling and turning the pups, clipping the nails, touching feet and mouths and bellies......Russell likes to give "puppy massages" where he hold the puppies in his hands so that they are belly up and he rubs their sternum/chest until they go limp...

Hadley has nursed them more today than she has in a while. They are starting to walk and can climb out of their box now! Time to get a bigger, taller one!
