That Teddy struck a gold mine! When our first Sheltie turned 10, all our friends were having kid birthday parties, so we thought what the heck. We had a party for Skye and someone went to the butcher shop, got a femur like that, and put a ribbon on it - she was in heaven.Does he actually finish the bone or just clean it off?I was surprised, the regular cow femurs are alot smaller. He gets an average of 3 a week and loves them. I like them since he helps keep his teeth clean and for the quiet time I get as I watch him work on his bones
He didn't finish it last night, he got tired .He can try again today when I give it back
Just make sure the bones you buy are cold smoked. Bones that are smoked using heat does cook the bones and that can make them very brittle which can then cause pieces to break off piercing an internal organ. They also become very hard which could cause dental issues. I never knew that there was such a thing as cold smoking but it essentially uses a very low temperature so it more flavours the bone without cooking it.Ruben my Butcher does give me a great deal then. The regular cow femurs are 9 to 12 inches long. I like smoked bones for Teddy.
He has some customers that get 4 inch raw bones but they are messy and I would worry about bacteria growth.
