Harnasses!

So Oreo is a chewer. He not only chews things that we provide, he chews things he finds -- random papers, the occasional sock, etc. His new "hobby" is chewing his harness. We've gone through three this week! Does anybody have (a) a recommendation for a chew-proof harness or (b) a way to stop him from doing this? He's always with me and I can usually catch him and stop him, but I can't stay up all night or, quite truthfully watch him every second of the day. HELP!

I have these that have held up well and are great flyball harnesses (the guys did not like the Julius K9 because they are to hot in the south). Not sure how it would do on chewing as part of me says he could not get to it to chew.....the other part of me remembers when Sca could buzz saw through a leather leash before I knew he had it in his mouth. Also from Clean Run - I use the Perfect Fit harness - it's 3 pieces so yes, you do end up with a perfect fit! We don't leave harnesses on. If he likes to chew, mine are no longer interested in Kong's, but a peanut butter (check label for Xylitol) filled Kong, frozen, would keep them happily chewing for ages when they were younger.

Have you tried bitter apple spray? We keep our harnesses up high on the coat rack just in case one of ours decides to try and eat it..

I agree, try the spray. This is (hopefully) a puppy phase that he’ll grow out of. All mine were chewers at that age and could chew through a leash in 30 seconds flat! They were over the worst of it by the age of 1.

Davy chewed a piece off his harness when we were up north. that's the only time that they wear harnesses all the time since my dad doesn't have a fenced yard and they either go out on leash or on a tie-out. Can't say for sure that Davy didn't have a little help with that.......... :winkgrin:

Take a look at Ruffwear. Zulu's harness is going on 8 years, and it is still in great shape. But I never gave him the chance to chew on it.
