Hartley has mucus in stool. Coccidia?

I'm sorry to hear Hartley (LOVE his name!) is under the weather. Witholding food for a while is a good idea, hopefully that should be enough, especially with the pumpkin etc being introduced. I wonder if this could be just the effect of the stress caused by a change in circumstances? I know Epic was fine for a couple of days then he had loose stools for a day or so - probably as a result of the very long trip. I had the same experience with Revel when he came home. Although it was only an hours drive it was a very hot day. He had traces of blood and mucus and I panicked of course but again all was ok after a couple of days.

I hadn't thought about it at the time but I wonder if the stress of travelling and settling in someway changes the gut chemistry, letting dormant bugs come to the fore?

I'm sure everything will be just fine but I know when things aren't right then it's impossible not to worry.:hugs

Deworming medication can also cause mucus in the stool. I will be sending up prayers that Hartley has nothing seriously wrong and prayers for you too. Here is a big hug.:hugs I love his name.

While doing research today I did read that Coccidia can be brought on by stress, he was stressed in the car on the way home and got sick several times. Since we arrived home he has adjusted very well until this started. :gaah

He has had a total of 3 stools with Mucus today but I am getting the feeling it is more than just worms, still thinking Coccidia. He has slept most of the day except for a couple bursts of energy in between. He has held down meals of Chicken Baby food, rice, broth and pumpkin served in small portions throughout the day so I am pleased about that. His gums are not as pink as I think they should be and have felt tacky at times. My little man is just not his wild self today. I will be going to the vets first thing in the mornng, if a car has not been delivered for Stan yet, my neighbor Carol a fellow Sheltie owner will be taking me.

I am once again greatful to have all of you here, want to thank all of you for your responses and advice. I will definitely update on my return from the vet.

We'll be thinking about you in the morning, Dawn. Sending prayers that Hartley is fine. I know it will be a long night for you. Sending you hugs! :hugs

By 3:30 this morning Hartley already had woken me 3 times to go potty and it got runnier each time. He also vomited a couple times which he hadn't done before. I have his puppy pads in the screened room and have him going in there for now until I introduce him to the yard. I decided at that point to get his bed, blankie and my pillows and blankets and spend the rest of the night out there with him. He went one time after that and is still sleeping. We have an appt. at 9:10. I'll update when I return.
