Hi,
Looking to find out what to do for my 13.5 year old girl with heart, kidney, thyroid and potential lung cancer. She is coughing a lot lately. I have been working with a heart doctor, holistic and traditional vet. She is on a ton of holistic supplements, heart pills and within the last few months I have given her CBD oil. She used to have a never ending appetite but not so much any more. In the last month or so we have had her at the emergency vet for coughing and to the heart doctor. The heart doctor has her on enapril, vetmedin, a cough suppressant and theophylline that needs to be taken as a whole pill. She used to take all her pills easily. Now she does not want to take her vetmedin and theophylline and I need to struggle to get her to take them. In addition she has been throwing up and passing out. This AM she passed out into her water bowl and pee'd herself.
Has anyone been thru this and have any suggestions?

I am so very sorry to hear your sweet little 13 year old girl is suffering through so many health issues!
My heart just goes out to you!

I totally understand the devisation you are feeling!
My sister's little 14 year old Sheltie was diagnosed with an enlarged heart and diabetes with thyroid issues also! She coughed constantly and also had trouble taking her meds! She also had a neurological disorder we medicated her for and seemed to diminish her head bobbing. Near the end she also kept collapsing like you described! She was also blind and deaf! Her little body was just shutting down. When the frequency of the collapses were 3-4 times a day and each time we thought she had died the vet recommended we should let her pass to Rainbow Bridge.

Although the decision is very personal to each circumstance I want to say that by your post you have done everything humanly possible to care for her physical, psychological, and emotional needs! It is always a blessing to have these sweet souls in our lives and so very hard on us when the frequency of an illness and they become weak and frail!

Blessings to you both and virtual hugs too! Please keep us up to date on your progress!

It may be time to ask yourself about her quality of life. What are the three things you know she most enjoys? How many of them can she still enjoy?

We nearly sent our Bitsy Boodle over the Bridge a couple of years ago on account of her severe arthritis. Then we did the above assessment and determined she still loved and enjoyed all of her special things. She's still with us -- bnut is she no longer ate, played ball, or wanted to go to her creek, we would make the hard but loving choice.

Thanks for everyone's replies - at this point she is eating although about 3/4 of what she used to and she still is liking to play. She did go into congestive heart failure so now we have her on lasix along with the other drugs - we have a follow up heart doctor appointment this Thursday as it appears not all of the fluid has drained from her abdomen. I am hoping we don't get more pills that is unless they really help her
