Heartworm, flea and tick medication , MSDR1 testing suggestions

Our ticks this year have not been as bad as some years but I found one embedded in my wrist near my fitbitoid thing-- I am sure it came from one of the dogs.. We don't treat for heartworm in the winter because of no mosquitoes and unless it is a mild winter we forego the nextguard as well but that is a risk of course and we have squirrels and chipmunks everywhere so fleas are always a possibility. Some years the ticks are really something but knock on wood not this year so far.

Ticks are bad everywhere this year it seems! Even here I’ve been seeing on the news how bad they are and Lyme is getting worse and worse. Here in Winnipeg deer ticks were pretty much non existent but every year they move closer and closer. Unfortunately for us people (but good for dogs) our medical systems here are still so backlogged due to Covid that the wait for treatment due to Lyme just keeps getting longer and longer. It’s crazy when our dogs get better and faster treatment than us humans do!

Same with our hospitals and also with our vets-- appt 2 months out... we have a much more expensive vet close by and they can get you an appt a week ahead... but yeah-- cost is about the same for dogs and people....
