Heeling transition, normal - slow, or normal - halt

LOL... Bobby and I will prob never boast a perfect heeling score!

Here's a video of our first trip in UT-A (too painful to show much of it) and then from one night last week. I was hoping that losing 100 lbs would make it easier to heel with me... :)

Warning... this youtube will self destruct in 10 hours...

Bobby is a nice heeler. The second to last halt looked nice he forged alittle but he stopped smooth with you. The last halt, you stuck your right foot and then stopped. No warning step and he got caught off guard. Try these things. For the forging sit put your lead behind your back/legs. It will help him stay back with you and if he forges, he'll feel alittle pressure. You don't have to do anything. He should back up on his own. Try to give him one step(plant hard) then a half step(with the other foot) and bring up the first foot up next to the second foot You don't have to do 3 just give him a warning step.

On your ring run he looked alittle distracted by the crowd. He'll get better with that as he shows more. Very nice though.

Way to go on the weight loss. I've been working on that myself and a 100lbs is fabulous.:smile2:

great video. Che and I started dabbling in obedience and he does pretty decent sit on 1 and 1/2 step. We practice it our our regular walks.

Bobby is looking good. I love his go outs, so fast.:smile2: Looks like your really to take on the UDX. Make sure to do some run though with the exercises in different orders.

Should I be ping ponging between the open and utility exercises, or keep the class exercises separate (but varing the order within the class.)

He's forgotten how to hold his group stay, so I'll work on that before I send in the *gulp* UDX class entries. AND... he did a Sit on Recall at the show and go! I'm sure he made an honest mistake, but geesh, he had never done that before!

I mix it up. I'll do 1 or 2 Open then 1 or 2 utility somedays or all utility or all Open mixed up. Just keep them guessing what is next. I always tell they what I going to do next.

Dang those stays.:( I hope it was a one time fluke. Ember has done that it couple times just forgot what she was doing. Justice *sigh* He has a chronic issue with staying sitting during sits stays. I refuse to think of how many OTCH points he has blown because of a blown sit stay. I know atleast 1 HIT and an Open 1st(which he still needs). Just keeping working on them. Don't stress out over them. Just put him back and began again. Reward/praise staying. Trust me. Alot of stay problems are stress related not because they are breaking on purpose. I learned the hard way.
