Hi guys.. I am from Bloomington, IN, I go to Indiana University and going to be an optometrist.

I am looking at getting my Shletie pup from a very reputable dealer in April.

I just had a few questions for you guys..

I was looking at feeding Blue Buffalo, is this brand okay for a sheltie? Also, what kind of food should I feed to a puppy Sheltie? Also, how much, how many times a day??

We are very excited to get our pup!! I am sure i will have more questions along the way!

Thanks guys!

Oh that is so exciting!! Welcome to the forum. We will definitely need to see puppy pictures!

You need to start your puppy on whatever the breeder has been feeding and then gradually transition to what you want to feed. I think Blue Buffalo is a good food. I'm sure you'll get lots of opinions on what to feed from other forum members...

CONGRATS!!!!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your new addition. Puppies typically get fed between 3-4 times a day. Your vet can help you determine how much at each meal. Likewise, switch food over slowly so the pup's tummy has a chance to adjust. I have fed Canadae and had good luck with that, but Blue Buffalo is also a good quality food. I highly recommend subscribing to the Whole Dog Journal. It is a highly regarded publication crammed with great articles about health and other topics.

Please post pics when you get your doggy! In the meantime, enjoy some of my pics on my Sheltie Trio photo album on this site.

Welcome To Sheltie nation -- I used t visit Brown County regularly! Congratulations on entering the Sheltie world -- Blue Buffalo is excellent. Transitrioning is certainly recommended.

Hi and welcome! I agree with what others have said... start your puppy on the same food the breeder has been feeding, and transition slowly to the new food so your puppy doesn't have digestive problems from a sudden switch. Puppies with diarrhea are no fun. :rolleyes2:

Blue Buffalo is an excellent brand, especially their Blue Wilderness (grain-free) line. Another popular food around this forum is Taste of the Wild (another grain-free brand). TOTW is an all-stages food, so you can feed the same food puppy-senior and only adjust the amount you feed.

TOTW can be tricky to find (places like Petsmart or Petco don't carry it), but it is one of the brands that Tractor Supply carries, and Tractor Supply has it at an awesome price. I've just switched my puppy over to Taste of the Wild, actually, because it is markedly cheaper than Blue Buffalo's Blue Wilderness! Tractor Supply carries both brands, so you could compare.

Enjoy Sheltie Nation. Lots of awesome folks here and a wealth of great information, too. Looking forward to seeing pics of the puppy when you get it!
