Hello from Massachusetts

Sheltie Girl

Forums Novice
Hello, I too have been enjoying this board for several months and now finally getting around to saying hello.
I am a three time Sheltie owner. Currently I am the lucky owner of Gunner, a beautiful, silly 1 year old bi blue boy who can from rescue. I lost both my 11 year old Sheltie JJ and my 13 year old Collie, Ivy last August, 10 days apart.

Just when I thought my heart was broken for good, along came New England Sheltie Rescue with a photo that brought tears (of happiness) to my eyes. A sweet little puppy with a crazy undershot bite. He was saved by rescue from a breeder who was going to euthanize him because of the defect! Not only has his "defect" all but disappeared, anyone who sees him smiles.. because he is smiling at them! So Gunner and his 15 year old collie mix sis, Brandi say hello! from Massachusetts.

Welcome Juli, Gunner and Brandi

Julie You have my heartfelt sympathy for your loss off JJ and ivy. I lost my 10 year old Sheltie, Jewel Nov 26, 2007 and I was so devastated. I can't imagine losing 2 beauties 10 days apart. But then God sent Gunner. God bless you and enjoy the forums.

Welcome!

Welcome to the group! What a great story about Gunner! I too understand what you went through last year. I lost my Shelite/Beagle mix on May 2 at 12 years old and then my Golden Retriever on June 1 at 14 years old. I thought a month apart was bad I can't imagine 10 days. We have since adopted not one but 3 Shelties girls since the end of June last year.

Lots of good advice and very nice people on here. Can't wait to see pics of Gunner and Brandi!

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your happiness with Gunner, he must be a real beauty. You should post some photos so we can see what he looks like!

Some people should not be breeding dogs, it breaks my heart to think that people euthanize dogs for all of the wrong reasons and even more so with puppies. How can someone destroy a life before its really even started! And for no good reason!

Welcome!

It's hard not to pass judgment on breeders who "cull" the less-than-perfect. Gunner is just one more proof that imperfections may conceal a perfect heart!

I always try and look for the good in people, I'll try and at least understand someone else's point of view even if I don't necessarily agree with it. I just cannot justify destroying an otherwise healthy puppy who has a slight physical inperfection. To me that would be similar to killing a baby with a born with a cleft lip or mal formed finger or toe. Its just wrong!

Thanks for the kind words

Nice to meet you all! Thanks for the warm welcome, and I really appreciate the condolences for my 2 beautiful girls who have passed. My heart and my prayers go out to all of you who have lost your babies as well.

I agree with you that some people just shouldn't be breeding. Gunner's undershot bite means nothing to us regular sheltie loving dog owners. It's barely noticable... and the little that it is makes him cuter! He looks like he's smiling. :biggrin2: I can't think about what might have happened to him if he didn't get to rescue. He has brought SO MUCH joy to us. It makes me literally sick to my stomach when I think of what might have happened to him. His sister was rescued too, and is living the good life as well with a nice family!
BTW- Sharon, we live in Littleton, MA. Don't know if you do agility in this area.
Can't wait to see pictures of all your pups!
