I have a rescue Border Sheltie (Border Collie Sheltie mix) that I have had for a year and I also have two Boston Terriers, and all three of them are great dogs. My question is: What is the best way to control the shedding in the Border Sheltie? I hope I am not disqualified from this board for having Bostons and a mix breed Sheltie. LOL

Welcome, gary! You are most welcome here, as well as your Border Sheltie and honorary Shelties! :biggrin2:

I recommend a teflon coated coat rake. That's really helped at our house with four Shelties!

Welcome to the forum!

My shelties only seriously shed about once a year. Border collies, from my limited exposure, tend to shed a lot more. I know that something that helps here for the shelties is a warm bath and then a brushing to pull out all the loose coat at once.

Welcome to the Sheltie Nation Forum! It is great to have you join us.

My Shelties are not big shedders, so I am really no help there!

Thanks for joining us.

Hey, Gary!

I grew up with Bostons! I have a sheltie and two mixes too!

I would try a furminator to help out with the fur. There are some good blog posts out there if you Google Furminator/Sheltie and it will show you how to use it and stuff. I got mine from Ebay.

Welcome to the sheltie forums!

Don't worry. Any dog in my books is amazing! They all love us just the same  I agree with everyone else though. Pictures are a must! Having a Border/Sheltie (Shorder?, Beltie? haha) must be a task in itself. They are both highly intelligent and very energetic.

As far as grooming goes, making sure that you brush consistently helps out a great deal. Furminators, though I've never used one, seem to be a great investment too.

Hope that helps a little!
