Hello everyone,
We wanted to stop in to say Hi! and try out a post to familiarize myself with this forum. When I say 'we' I mean myself and my 15 mo old S&W Sheltie, Hunter. I've been on other pet forums before and found them helpful, but I am looking forward to hearing and sharing Sheltie specific advice.
Hunter is my second Sheltie since my parents brought home our first family dog, Lazer, in '95. Lazer passed on 2 years ago and I was about to purchase my first house, what better way to warm up a new house than with a warm Sheltie!
Lazer was the best dog and friend a girl could ask for and he is the reason that I am so obsessed with Shelties today, he opened my eyes in so many ways.
So I guess you could say I've been a Sheltie-addict for 13 years now! LOL

Hunter and I are just getting into formal obedience training with hopes of one day competing for titles in both obedience and hopefully, agility. Along with that, Hunter is also in-training to become my Service Dog.

I have a bad habit of getting lost in researching pedigree lines, checking out breeders and researching Sheltie matters in general for hours and hours! I hope this will be a good outlet for my obsession!

I'm not sure what else to share, but I can't wait to swap info, stories and advice with other Sheltie people!!

Welcome!

Welcome!
I've only been a Sheltie addict for about a year. I have a Papillon/Sheltie mix (I like to call him a "Sheltillon") named Gray Dawntreader and a German Shepherd named Cookie. I'm not the most dog-knowledgeable person (especially around here:wink2:), but I do read about dogs. My strongest knowledge around dogs is positive training (including clicker and NILIF [Nothing in Life is Free] training) and what makes a good breeder a good breeder.
Hope that you enjoy it here.:biggrin2:

Welcome Minnesota

Welcome, nice story, I am a sheltie mom to 4 shelties - three boys and one girl.
Got bitten by the sheltie bug, about 10 years ago, when we got our first girl at 3 years of age - she is now our sheltie angel at the rainbow bridge.
the next two boys came to our forever home at 9.1/2 and 9 years ago
then came their (cousin) a boy now 5.1/2 years and then came another little girl last November at 15 months old.
All my shelties have done or are doing obedience and have been awarded with lots of nice ribbons. My training method is patience, making it fun and lots of encouragement and of course special treats when they try to perform well.
Anyway's good luck with obedience - it is a lot of fun.

We're all so happy to have you! We love to share ideas. Everybody is helpful -- no grumpies in this bunch!

Thank you for the warm welcome everyone!

I can tell I like this place already
I practice NILF here as well as positive reinforcement/treat training also.
I know that if it weren't for my community regulations on the number of pets allowed, I would have a whole herd of Shelties! But I also have 3 cats as well as Hunter, so I am at the max :(
BUT, my mom also has a 3/4 Border Collie 1/4 Sheltie mix named Benny. Benny is Hunter's BFF, those 2 are attached at the hip!! They actually get depressed if we don't get together a few times a week. We call Benny a 'Shollie' even though he can easily pass for a purebred BC!
I am the family groomer around here. We don't trust pro-groomers since we had Lazer groomed professionally once and he came home trimmed up looking like a Corgi!!:eek2:
I am self taught in that hobby, so I hope to pick up some new skills here. Best investment I ever made was my grooming table and forced air dryer! My mom thought I was crazy for spending the money, after she saw what I could do with the right tools - now she is glad I did. Equipment like that pays for itself in a few baths.

I have tons of pictures to share and many questions to ask but I don't want to flood the board with all of them right away.

One thing I am wondering, is it ok to post Dogster pages here?

Thanks again everyone!

Welcome Hunter's Mom and Hunter !!

Glad to have you on board. You have come to the right place we all love to share thoughts, Photos, Stories and just info on various subjects that concern our shelties. Shelties are an awesome breed. Kiara, my sable and White pup, whois now 3 months is so smart. My very first Sheltie was My Sweetheart , Jewel. She was a Blue Merle with the Beautiful Blue eyes. She is at the rainbow bridge now. She passed on Oct, 26, 2007, she was just 10 years young. I had her cremated along with her favorite toy ,her Frizbee.
Welcome again a looking forward to seeing you on the treads. Sheltie hugs to Hunter !
