Hello from NJ

Thanks. Bear starts to drool even on very short trips. I hope he gets over it. He does seem to do better in our car than in the truck.
Our vet told me that over 90% of dogs can overcome car sickness with repeated exposures. He advised to start slow with fun trips to local parks and pet stores before breakfast. Even if it's only a park that's 2 blocks away it will help the dog to gain confidence in the car which helps with the anxiety. He explained that anxiety and nausea often become a vicious circle with nausea being triggered by anxiety and anxiety being caused by previous experiences with nausea. Antiemetic (motion sickness) medications can also help break the cycle. Gravol is often recommended by vets (just call yours for dosing) but if that isn't strong enough there are prescription meds that your vet can prescribe. My dog finnaly overcame his on an 8 hour round trip that we used medication for. After that trip the drooling stopped and we were able to stop meds on local trips and finnaly on long road trips. Good luck!
