Hello from Ohio, 1st time Sheltie owner

I think what others have posted is right. time and patience are key. It took a very long time for my boy to open up to me. Now, he has not only opened up to me, but, runs up to other people he recognizes.

He has turned out to be quite the love bug, especially around women. OMG I didn't know I was bringing home a womanizer. but oh well.

I promise you will be rewarded in the end. Just hand on. and be patient

That is so nice to hear. It will be 3 weeks tomorrow and he has formed an attachment to me he follow's me everywhere. I just wished he would play a little and not sleep so much I know that is not good for his health.

I love the name Sugar and how kind of you to take him in. Sugar's world has changed and he is probably missing the shih tzu and his previous owner. If his old owner was sick for three years maybe Sugar slept a lot then too. My mom's friend took a dog in when it's owner died and nobody wanted it. He never owned a dog so my mom and I got him food, treats, toys etc. The dog loved ladies because his owner was a woman. Eventually the dog came around and followed his new owner around the house and wound up sleeping on the bed with him. It just took lots of love and kindness and walks.
