Help! My new Sheltie won't go to the bathroom.

A vet visit is alway good, you will know all is fine, and it will relieve your mind.

I just got a kick out of my friend, talk about where to go. She is from the south, her dog never seen snow, or how to go potty in it. Then she worried about her dog pooping too, she went to the vet. He told her he is not going to go potty like you do, your human, he is a dog. Its not funny, but we had to laugh.

Well it is a concern.

Thanks so much for all the responses! Luckily I was able to get ahold of her former owner and found out that she is very particular with her bathroom habits. She doesn't like to go while she is on a leash and she doesn't like to be watched. I don't have a fenced yard and didn't feel comfortable letting her loose in the front yard so I took her to a fenced ballpark nearby and sure enough she did #1 and #2. Now I have to figure out whether to fence my yard in or hope she gets used to leash walks.

Thanks again everyone!

Glad to hear the potty problem is solved. They can be very particular.

Our Mally is the opposite, he prefers going on walks rather than going
in the yard!

They make like 20' training leashes that might work as a restroom leash. Sca always looks across the ya rd giving me the evil eye. Of course he can come in and toss a rawhide on me when I am in the bathroom :rolleyes2:

I'm happy to report that my new girl is adjusting just fine and going on a regular basis. Thank goodness! Thanks for all the advice!
