Help please - "factoring" questions

I'm just trying to figure out what the pup will look like when he grows up - the "factoring" doesn't matter to me since he wouldn't be bred.

The merleling may become more pronounced as he ages, but the pup should look like he does today. All that factoring is for those of us interested in breeding one day. My boy is bifactored, biblue, and probably non-white factored but the latter can't be for certain since his sire was white factored.

Cranberry is a tri-factored sable merle
not white factored though:winkgrin:

I was looking for puppy pictures of Cranberry. Must have a seniors moment because I can't find them, but I seem to recall Cranberry being a lot lighter as a pup?

I'm curious because I can't wait to see how Callan will grow out.

Forget this. I typed this after your first response then scrolled further and voila! There was the link to your album! ::smile2:

we aim to please- even when we don't know that we are.....
yes, Cran was a lot lighter when he was little and had many changes in color including his red stage which was in the summer so 8-9 months old....

I do love watching the smerles grow up so post lots of pix of Callan:yes:

Jester is a white factored tri factored sable merle. His mother is a color headed white. His dad is a tri.

So if I were to breed him to a another tri factored female there is 25% chance the pair would produce tri dogs...for that matter if they were a bi factored sable the results would be the same since bi color is recessive.

If he were bred to a black whether tri or bi the results would be about 50% whether they were a sable or tri. The only difference would be the pups and whether they would be tri factored tri tri.....or bi factored sables and tris depending on the female.

The white factoring.....I honestly know little about. I would assume if the pair were both white factored could end up with color headed whites. Most of this stuff has to do with breeding though. If one isn't going to breed them no biggie.

The merle pattern is not always as obvious on a sable because of the variations that a sable coat can be. Sometimes the base coat color and the merled patches as they age are very similar in color.

He is the sable merle there as you can see his mottled look is visible and at the time he was a year and a half old or there about. I do not have the more recent things that really show his coat off on the internet yet.

sure looks blue to me- in that pic........

Jester is the one laying down and while he is a sable merle.....some have asked if he is a blue...Fox is the blue dog in the photo however.

Looks more like a blue merle to me as well - fromthat photo there appears to be far more grey than tan colour?

Just going to throw out there . . . still . . . if anyone runs into an available color headed white male 1-3 year old that is in or near CA -- must be OK with dogs/cats -- let me know. I want one. PM me.

My first dog was a color-headed white terrier and that pattern just sticks in the nostalgic vein with me, but I don't want a pap or terrier or cav who all display similar patterns. Someday I might just find one!

I had an opportunity at a color-headed black (blue merle with a really black body and the merling around the head) which was really striking but by the time the husband got home to discuss someone had taken him.

Anyway -- I just REALLY like the color headed white and it is kind of a shame they label them as undesirable. Same with the blue GSD. Stunning but don't do it.
