Hemp Oil for Bitsy Boodle

We're trying something different for Bitsy. At the advice of a holistic expert, we started her on organic, non-GMO hemp oil twice daily. We eliminated all other meds (Denamarin, Gabapentin and Tramadol). So far, we're seeing very good results. Bits seems more interested in her surroundings and more active -- she even wants to play ball again, albeit gently. She got her appetite back, too (spare me the munchies jokes; we've already made them all!)

We started with this:

However, it costs nearly $40! :eek2: So I did a bit of looking and found this:
https://www.vitacost.com/vitacost-certified-organic-hemp-oil-non-gmo-24-fl-oz-710-ml-1
It's for humans, and as far as I can tell, it's the exact same thing, except you get a whale of a lot more for one-fourth the price. (I suspect it's a case of jacking up the price for dogs because they can get away with it. :mad1:)

We'll keep you posted on the results.

Chris, may I ask how/why this works? I assume it addresses her discomfort from her arthritis? I am planning on trying the green-lipped mussel supplement for Brooke's arthritis (waiting for a Chewy order in 2 weeks), but I'm always interested in learning about alternatives. I hope it works for Bitsy!

UPDATE: We're doing more research. The Vitacost hemp oil may not be a good choice. Several reviews say it's not cold-pressed (not good). I've also learned that you need to verify how much CBD (Cannabidiol) is in the oil. I'll keep y'all posted.

The active ingredient is CBD (Cannabidiol), which relieves pain and reduces anxiety. I'd definitely recommend anyone interested to do your own research. Don't just go by what I say.

I ordered CBD oil for Gavin's limp that cannot be diagnosed. I will post the results. Since I don't have a good feel on what the problem is, lack of improvement may not mean much. He is on green lipped muscle/glucosamine/condroitin/MSM/Golden paste supplements as well (I didn't see any improvement with them, but after limping for so long joint issues are a given so I don't want to stop them in case they are helping prevent decline).

Gavin has been doing fine on CBD oil. No miraculous improvement, but his mood is good. One thing, CBD is expected to interfere with metabolism of certain drugs. Like heartworm meds. Not sure how to handle this, but it might increase toxicity. I have never read of any issues from pet owners, but....

So I stopped the CBD oil for 2 days, and he was stiff and limping a bit more this morning :( So back onto the CBD oil for now. I have Gabapentin ordered from an online vet, so that will arrive soon.

Good combination!

It seems it takes a while for CBD oil to have an effect (as in days) wheras Gabapentin was pretty quick. Also I haven't seen any afect from the cbd treats. It could be he needs a higher dose than that of the oil.

The past few weeks I have noticed Gavin drinks more water and urinates more (as in he wakes me up early for water at 3AM and to go out and 5AM). He has never done this in the past. I attribute it to CBD oil and dry mouth (known side effect)
