I'm trying to think outside of the box (the one I've always been in as far as dog sports go, anyway) with activities for Olive. It's going to be awhile, I think, before we're ready for any serious obedience/agility-type training because Olive has problems in buildings with noises. She doesn't seem to have much, if any, of that type of issue around animals, at least those she's been exposed to - cats, dogs, ducks, geese, deer (up close and in large herds), all the usual suburban "critters". If she sees deer or geese, she really wants to herd them, will practically rip off my arm. She is always more relaxed in unfamiliar natural settings than unfamiliar, indoor man-made ones.
I can visit a friend's farm to see if Olive can tolerate the sights/sounds of livestock. No contact, just walking around on a leash near the barns and pens. If she can handle it and seems interested, I'd like to get her signed up for the herding instinct testing. So far I have had zero luck finding anything remotely close (time or space) to the Detroit metro area. Anybody have any suggestions?
