Couldn't help but smile watching both these videos! Back in the '90's, I ran a Sheltie and two Border Collies in herding. Lexi's first time out looks just like my Sheltie, Neechee's first time with sheep. He later calmed down greatly, and herded with a seriousness I wouldn't have expected from him. He was by far more instinct-driven than either of my BC's. (Which is strange because they both came from stock dog lines, my boy's mother and father both were national champions.)
You had a VERY nice barn for your first time out! I regularly trained in a cow pasture (with all that entails...aHEM!) and in mud, rain, snow (once), and a hillside, to boot! The only time I ever ran them indoors (and all three at the same time) was at a livestock barn with my uncle's sheep during an auction. They did very well, and I was surprised to get offers of over $1500 for my babies! (Little did those livestock barn people know that all my dogs spent most of their time in a townhouse in a large urban area, lying on the sofa and watching TV.)
Thanks for bringing back some wonderful memories!
