He's chewing on me!

Chewing, nibbling

Ha, this is so funny. Meddi is now almost 5 and she constantly nibbles those little sharp, tiny bites. She does this on us, the sheets and just about anything when we are talking with her. Sometimes it really hurts when she pinches the skin but I know she is just excited.

Yes I do the crushed ice...infact mine get sooo excited when they hear me getting it you would think I am giving them Filet Mignon! When they are teething too I also take old face cloths and soak them and put them in the freezer and than give that to them it works that they are getting to chew which feels good to them and the ice is helping their pain a bit.

Max is the same way when he hears the icemaker. I also make Max brothsicles. I put 1/2 chix broth & 1/2 water in a ice cube tray. He loves them on a hot summer day.

He also makes a habbit of chewing on my pants leg. Try walking out the door to work with a sheltie attached to your leg. Do you get paid extra if you bring more help in?

Dont I know that nipping the pants leg thing. I have this funny walk now which is my trying to walk with a sheltie attached to my trousers walk. Unfortunately Deska never grew out of it.

You are not alone! When I walk Aonghus is ALWAYS attached to either my pant leg or the heel of my shoe!! He is almost 8 months old now and he has been doing this since he was 8 weeks. Gotta love those little herders!!!

Layla loves playing "pantleg bandit!" If I say in a high voice, "Help! It's a big bad sheepdog! Help!" she'll come a runnin' to herd me by the leg.

Smudge and I were just playing, and he just play bit me. He broke the skin. He hasn't had his rabies shot yet. As soon as he done it I went and applied some anitseptic.

I know this is going to sound really stupid, but I don't need to go get a rabies shot for myself, do I? Since he has not had one and he play bit me?

No, you do not need to get a rabies shot. If Smudge had rabies you would know it from his behaviors. The rabies shot prevents them from getting it from other animals that already have the active virus in their system. Say that he found a racoon out in the yard and decide to play with it and it bit Smudge. Smudge wouldn't be as susceptible to the virus. You would still need to take him in but he wouldn't get it if he is vaccinated. Hope that helps.

Yeah, there's pretty much no way he can play or come into contact with any animal outside. I was just making sure I didn't need to do something since he drew blood. We were just playing and when I went to get up off of the floor he snuck up behind me and sunk his teeth into my left leg.

I've got to find a way to get this biting under control. Nothing is working. I think I'm going to try some of that bitter apple stuff I keep hearing about. I'm going to try spraying some of it on my hands, legs, and feet and see if it does any good.

However, it's a good idea to make sure your tetanus shot is up to date. I recommend trying this: when he bites, say in a low, gruff voice (not shouting, just low), "No bite!" As soon a he stops -- and you may only have a nanosecond, say, in a high voice, "Good boy!" Shaking a can of pennies simultaneously can help, too. If he's not afraid of pennies, you can try a puff from a can of Dust-off (available in camera supply stores). Air is much better and less messy than water from a squirt gun. Most dogs hate a puff of air in the face.
