Hey all!

Just wanted to say hi. I'm the proud owner of Plato a just turned 10 week old Blue Merle Sheltie pup. He is adorable and so smart! He's *mostly* house trained I think after less than a week and a half, walks on leash very well (hard not to living in a condo and taking 10 walks a day lol), and learned the sit command in one night. He comes pretty reliably when I call him but we're still working on coming all the way to me and not just part of the way and not ignoring me when there's something to chew :p. He's also the most well adjusted pup I've ever seen. Nothing scares him, no matter how loud and he loves all people and only makes noise when he's communicating something! He's my second Sheltie. The first one, Lucky, is 16 now and lives with my parents but was my childhood dog. He was such a great dog and so trainable that I knew when I finally got my first dog on my own it'd be another Sheltie. He and Plato just met today for the first time, pretty cute. I'd love to post some pics but I can't figure out how to do it on this forum. Looking forward to talking about my favourite breed of dog with you all ! :)

Welcome from Port Colborne. Always so glad to see fellow Sheltie owners from Ontario.

Sounds like Plato is doing really well. My Noah and Emma both were walking on a leash by 10 weeks. Noah pretty much house trained himself - he always asked to get out, even from the first day I had him.

Welcome! You already know the joys of living with a Sheltie, now you get to raise a pup, I'm a little jealous of all the adorable pups around here. You can use photbucket or flicker to post pics as well as joining the premium membership here, which is totally worth it imo.

Lucky is now 16 living with your parents?!? You must be super duper Sheltie people to keep them going to 16 :biggrin2:. And of course Plato is smart and learning tricks and commands, he's a Sheltie, they are superbrain dogs (well, mine are anyway lol).

Yes Lucky is a true joy, and still going strong at 16. His back two legs don't work as well as they used to and he's a bit heavy but he's still got spunk. I attribute it to good nutrition and a VERY good vet in his first 6 years or so who was really knowledgeable and made sure Lucky got all the best. He is also much loved which can only help. He's a big boy, 19 - 21" or thereabouts and super smart. He was housetrained in 3 days. He's not well suited to city life or I would have loved to have him with me. He lived with me during my university years but I was in a much quieter, more subdued town then more like where he grew up. He's mostly deaf now but still very well behaved and well trained enough that he doesn't need to be given commands often anyways. I'm hoping Plato can live up to those high standards :). He will now hop in his pen on command. The thing I really want/need him to learn is how to let me know it's time to go out so I can get some work done and some more sleep!

We're so happy to welcome you and Plato! I'm beginning to think the Sheltie is the Official Dog of Ontario!
