I'm Jennifer, I'm 18.I have, (but not own, he's my brothers.) a 8 week old golden sable male Jacob (Jake). And our sheltie angel, Kain (aka: Kain the pain) a golden sable male. and i plan on later on getting one for myself. I fell for the breed one year and six months ago, when one year after our mix (Labrador/collie) breed,puck, at the old age of 14, died. My family decided that we needed a new dog, and knew we were ready for one, my dad heard from a coworker that the miniature collie was a great dog, so we found a breeder and got one. He became spoiled and our family's baby boy. But sadly he loved to chase cars, and was killed. but the love for the breed never left, and my dad thought that we needed a new one, and so we came to have jake.(and he'll never be aloud near a road, and will be trained to come to us when called. so he stays safe.) but anyways. Hi all!! :winkgrin:
 
Welcome, I am new to this forum too, and I am learning alot. I just wanted to say that I visited Maggie Valley a couple of years ago in the fall and thought it was one of the most beautiful places I've seen. A great place to raise Shelties.:smile2:

I have a Sheltie mix (or at least a Sheltie look-alike) named Gray Dawntreader.
I started the love the breed about a year ago myself. I was attracted to it because of the way it looks similar to a Collie (I'm also a Collie fan and have been for 3 or 4 years), and read about them. I loved what I found out about Shelties, and then I wanted one. We looked for months for a Sheltie. Sad to say, I wanted one so bad that I considered getting one from a bad breeder. Then in July we called the shelter for the 20th time and they said that they had a Sheltie mix up for adoption.

My parent's sheltie came from a pet store, surprisingly. I've never seen another sheltie in a petstore, which is probably a good thing. While Milo is a very nice dog he has a few personality issues and I often wonder if they have to do with his up bringing. Supposedly he came from a lady who "breeds them in her home," but that could definitely mean puppy mill. Poor Milo :no:

Sorry to hear of the tragic loss of Kain.:cry: That is one of many reasons I won't let my sheltie out of my site. She stays with me at all times when outside. Welcome and enjoy the forums.

yeah, jake was saved from a bad breeder(we're still defleaing him and treating two different types of tapeworms, one from fleas, the other from misqitos) , and kain was from a backyard breeder(Tho he was kept in a building along with other breeds of dogs) I think sometimes it's better to save them from a bad breeder, than for them to suffer.

Thanks. Yeah, i don't like to let him out.(he didn't go out with out a halter on and leash.) The screen door was loose, and he slipped by my brother, and ran into the road as a car come up the road, and it was raining. T.T my brother saw the whole thing.
The thing i hate is the guy who hit him was a out stater and acted like he'd just ran over some stick. Didn't even help my brother when he slipped in mud and fell in the road trying to get to kain. I dislike people who treat and act like animals are just some thing. :mad:
