when I read the article, it said the survey was done in 2006- I would like to see a more recent survey since in 2006, I don't believe that there were any rubberized contacts being used. I bet that chute injuries in a current survey would be greater than the contacts now.....
Tire injuries appear to be 6th most common in 2006 but issues with that helped change the old style tire to the current breakaway style.

I didn't notice the date but you are right, there weren't rubberized contacts, 24 inch weaves or a breakaway tire in 2006. When I started training in 2008 and trialing in 2009 it was still sanded contacts, standard tire, and 20 inch weaves. It really would be interesting to redo that survey and see what has changed after all these improvements.

Sorry! I only started learning about agility in 2012 when I got Missy. I would be interested in seeing an updated survey.
 
Please don't apologize, Jess. It really was an interesting read and, to be honest, the fact that a lot of competitors have focused in on the chute (and I do remember people in an uproar about the safety of the tire) makes me think the safety of the other obstacles HAS improved. There are probably many of us on this forum who weren't doing agility back in 2006, myself included.

On the subject of 'alternative' agility obstacles, this year I've also see a Wishing Well!! It livens things up a bit as our jumps are all a generic design. Until recently Epic was deeply suspicious of the wall because it wasn't something he ever trained over.:lol:

I wonder if anything will be brought in to replace the chute? Some people have suggested a sort of free standing cat flap...

The water jump looks interesting. Echo would never do it. She won't even potty on the grass until the dew has dried in the morning. Not a water dog, my Echo.

I only got my first sheltie, Callie (rescue), in Dec of 2006 and really didn't even know that agility existed:eek2:

I listened to it yesterday. It didn't really give me all the information I wanted to know, but it was a decent podcast.

Oh, and because I'm a bit crazy, I went ahead and emailed Clean Run and suggested they re-do the survey now that it's been 10 years and so much has changed with the obstacles.

I just found out CPE eliminated the chute effective immediately. That leaves only ASCA in the US and I don't follow that venue to know if they've decided to drop it or not.

ETA:
WOW! I just looked on CPE's Yahoo group and they made some major wholesale changes to their equipment list effective today. Not only have they removed the chute, they also elimiated the Tire and limited use of the Triple to non-Standard and non-Jumpers courses only.
