Holistic Flea and Tick repellant

Well, if everybody here likes it then maybe it wouldn't hurt to try it for a month or two to see how it does. Smudge doesn't have a flea on him, and I use Advantage. The mange dips might be killing all the fleas, too.:lol:

Do they do it based on weight like everything else? I'm fixing to have to move up a size in medicine anyway. The last time Smudge was weighed they said he was 15.5 pounds, and this was the day he got fixed (around August 20th). I'm curious to see how much he weighs now. I think I'll ask if they can weigh him Wednesday when I take him back.

I bet the dips kill all the bugs :dead:
yes, the Comfortis is weight based- they're on the 20-40 lbs pill.

Homeopathic flea and tick spray

SO I will first admit that I have not read the 13 pages of this thread but I dont want to use chemicals for fleas and ticks. I found a spray at the Canine Bakery where I buy Snickers dog food. The spray contained Rosemary extract and cedar oil mixed with water and a few other inactive ingredients. You have to spray the entire dog. Does anyone have any info regarding rosemary and or cedar oil. Snickers smells like cedar for a few hours but the smell goes away or I just got used to it... as long as it works and is safe I can deal with a cedar sheltie every know and then.:smile2:

Also I am getting a topical liquid made of rosemary and peppermint that you apply only to the dogs collar. (I really wanted that first but they were sold out).

Any info...good.....bad.... in between? Does it work??? Is any of it harmful?? suggestions/comments..... welcomed.

The information I have on essential oils is this (and it may or may not be true):

1. Any essential oil will repel fleas, it's the strong scent, not necessarily a specific scent. I have a grooming client who uses Pennyroyal on hankerchief's around her dogs necks to repel bugs. I pick ticks off her dogs, but I have never seen a flea on her dogs.

2. Essential oils are frequently lethal to cats.

The only other thing I have seen is the 50/50 vinegar/water spray before going outside. I think it's a scent thing, just changes it enough to not interest the fleas. Might try it for mosquitoes for me. : ) I already rinse my hair in vinegar, so spraying it can't be worse.

I have several natural products I am trying on my two. So far, I have used the Neem spray on them. I have found one tick on each of them but on their noses (where I did not spray)(and one on my head thanks to Maia who sleeps by my head on her pillow - so it crawled off of her and onto me!). This weekend they are getting groomed, so I will have the groomer use the Neem shampoo as a final rinse to see if this will give them extra protection.

Here is a web site that I bought the items from:
