Hopefully that's a light at the end of the tunnel....

I can understand how important it is to teach the dog to do their business on a leash. I taught Piper years ago when he was a puppy and he’ll still poop on command. Have you tried putting the leash on him in the yard and practice at home?
I don’t blame you Margi about not walking after dusk! I’m glad we don’t have those problems here!
He pottied on walk all the time before the hernia. Maybe if we are ever cleared to move around he will start doing it again. If he is on lead in the backyard he will just stand there next to me LOL.
Here it is 9 pm and he's all wound up again so I got out his hardest puzzle game and filled it with low cal treats and he worked it of course in 5 min....but maybe that was enough to unwind him a bit.
I ordered the melatonin which will be here tomorrow. If he continues to agitate tonight I may just give him a half a trazadone so I can get some sleep!!

I hope you finally had a quiet night! I wouldn’t hesitate to use the trazadone if he still can’t settle down. I didn’t need it for Flurry to sleep but she did need it during the day and I found if I cut the pills and gave her a reduced dose it was just enough to take the edge off. My vet originally prescribed it for Lacey when she couldn’t sleep and had me up all night. I didn’t like how she reacted to it but I do know it’s safe to use for that if Benny is still restless. You both need rest!

I guess the only other thing I could suggest is if he’s cleared for a 15 minute walk how about doing 15 minutes of obedience exercises with him? You could do random sits and downs or even spins to keep it fun. Or you could do some scent work on leash in the house to keep the boredom at bay (I say on leash to keep him from getting too over excited). Even a few games before bedtime might help? But I do think the trazadone is also a good idea!

We are on Probation! LOL YAY! Stitches out, rectal showed repair intact and healing well. Everything is in place.
He is cleared for unlimited walks and no worries about watching him every second in the house anymore, he can move freely around the yard just no running or jumping. He really misses his couch and his recliner. He stands there looking at them longingly! I have them stacked with throw pillows LOL.
Swelling is gone, he is not tender on the surgery site so no more carprofen, and I can wean him off the gaba. Vet tech thought maybe the stitches were bothering him last week when I tried to take him down to two gaba.
Two more weeks of miralax then I can try to wean him off! I hope the bottle I bought today is the last I ever have to buy!!
Doc wants the extra two weeks of relative quiet to cement the heal. But we are basically free! I can live thru two weeks of these conditions easy!

Three years in the making and a cast of thousands....
