I've been told that several times. I was not aware of it before I got my puppy.
Housebreaking! Help!
I have a 15 week old female sable pup. I THINK she is doing well. She sleeps all night (9:30 or so until about 6:30) in crate with no accidents. She goes out every 3 hours or so and after all meals. She has had only 5 accidents in the 7 weeks we have had her. She has only peed NOT pooped in the house and each time she has peeded she was taken right outside and she finished or peeded again. Then she was praised.
Now my concerns are
#1 Is this good? Should she be doing better at this point? She is never alone unless in her crate so it seems like WE ARE HOUSEBROKE!
#2 We are due to be away for 10 days! (Lord help us!) She is being cared for by my 3 adult children in our own home. She is still on a eat 3 meals a day feeding plan (not sure when that will end!). The kids will be hear for the 3 meals to feed and let her out and check water. someone will be here at night with her to let her out late before bed and early in AM (not sure HOW EARLY they get up!). I am concerned that all of this housebreaking efforts that we have been working on will be undone. Not sure if all of our training (sit, come, down) will be forgotten in that 10 days.
Any suggestions for me. I am home all summer (school teacher) so she is not alone much. They all work...

Sounds like she's doing really well. I wouldn't be concerned about her potty training progress, I think she's around where she should be, every pup is different.
As long as your kids more or less keep up the routine that you have she should be fine. She shouldn't forget all of her training in only 10 days. Even if there are a few accidents while you're gone away, I doubt any major damage will be done to her potty training in such a short time.

I agree that you're pretty much on schedule with regards to potty training. 5 accidents in 7 weeks is pretty good!
You might consider dropping down to two meals a day - before you go away. At 15 weeks, there is no issue there. It will also make the housetraining easier....one less food cycle to deal with (pups tends to need to go outside shortly after eating)
Like Ontario Sheltie said....as much as you can keep the routine, the better! Where is the crate at night? In your room or elsewhere? If the pup is used to sleeping to sleeping next to you, then whatever human kid is in charge that night should bring the crate in with him/her.
And don't worry about the training. It won't disappear. But do tell your kids what she knows so far. It might make THEIR life easier if they can get her doing basics while they are babysitting.
