House training question

Our Hanna will not go down the basement stairs even for her very favorite liver treats. They are uncarpeted hardwood and she is scared of them. No gate needed. I tried getting her to go up the other day and she just went splat and refused to move. Outdoors she uses stairs including open ones all the time and has no trouble with either up or down. I still have to watch her down there especially if we are watching TV as she will sneak to the door (it's a walk out) and poop or pee. So I usually with just leave her upstairs or put her on the lazyboy with me. On the main level she scratches at the door or comes to get me to let me know she wants out, but not in the basement.

I realized about 3 a.m. that I'm being played.... Flyer has figured out I'm his doggie door. He barks, and I get up and open the back door. He pees and I give him a cookie. I really don't think he needed to pee every hour during the night, but at this tender stage of "thank you for letting me know your need" and opening the door - I will need extra coffee for a few nights.

I am giving him the benefit of the doubt because I put a drink "Licksalot" in his pen. He spilled every bucket or bowl I've tried, and I have some very cute pictures of him learning how the licksalot works. Silly puppy. You lick it.

Our first Sheltie was an angel. Never chewed a thing and was fully house broken by 4 mos. then along came Shelby....the complete opposite.

We did not give Shelby full access to the house until this year, and she is 4. She was such a terrible chewer we just could not trust her all day when we were at work. Well one day we came home and she got herself out of her crate. She didn't chew a single thing. So she now hasn't been crated since and I actually just put it away this weekend.

I think you need to continue to limit access until you know you have full trust in your pup. It can take a long time to build that trust.

Although not a chewer and he only ever had the one accident upstairs the night I brought him home from being neutered (the one time he went on the bed I don't count as an accident; it was totally on purpose) he probably would still be crated when we leave except one time we some how forgot to lock him away when we left for work. We came home and all was well. We left the crate out and open for probably another 6 months after that if he wanted to use it, but never really seemed to.. so that could put away.
