How Clicker Training Saved A Mangy Sheltie.

See?! I knew it would come in handy! I have been backing off on training for a while, because of the food problems Smudge was having. We really need to get back into practice. :uhoh:

I'm thinking Santa Paws is probably going to stuff Smudge's stocking with training treats.

lol
Toffee is nuts over cheese... new tricks are all cheese based, LOL

Although I didn't have it on me :rolleyes2: when that incident occurred, lol

I have found that even if he is trained to do a trick with the clicker that he will more often than not still perform the same trick if the clicker isn't there.

:uhoh: Did that make sense?

What I mean is that he will do the trick either way. :biggrin2:

Trapp is also that way. He just this past week, will now do a "down" without the clicker.
Although,if he see's the clicker or I have a treat pouch on..holy cow,I have his undivided attention. He'll do anything to get that treat from the pouch~

I used a treat pouch in early training with all my dogs. I wean them off of it being there early in trainng because in can be such a big clue to being food present or no food present also they aren't allowed in the obedience ring so I need to keep them guessing. I'll put it in my pocket or in a container on a chair or ledge and go get it.

That being said if someone in my training class is wearing one, Justice and Ember will follow them and stare at the pouch hoping it will somehow spill its contents into their mouths. :smile2: Ember does the cutest little show stack and usually ends up with a cookie for her efforts.:rolleyes2:People can't resist her.

Hope you find the Sca remote soon. Until then ... "I can't hear youuuu."
Found it! He sits like a stone, looks at me like I got food (I do), shakes great but his down is lacking bad. I was hoping to work on his loose leash some but we are getting a monsoon with tornado watch so a walk around the fence and frisbee session have to wait :(

I guess it is back to the basics on the down.

I love those pouches.

no pouches here..
i have a perma pouch called jeans pockets/dress clothes pockets/hoodie pockets/jacket pockets...
LOL
although people at work look at me funny when I pull out doggy kibble at the vending machine instead of change...

I also don't always use the clicker, only when working on new behaviors/tricks (if any) lol or when I don't forget the dog park :)
