How Do/Does Your Sheltie/Shelties Awaken You?

I'm LMAO @ The Stories!

OMG, these stories are so funny!:lol:

I'm trying to teach the Boys the command,"It's not time, yet. Go to bed," when I don't want to get up. They do know, "Go back to bed" when I let them out at the crack of dawn for potty.

My very first Rottie, Spud, used to stare us down when he wanted to go potty. Worked every time, LOL!
 
Last October, my sister and I took Layla and Bits tent camping with us. Poor Bits got a bad case of the runs -- starting right after we went to sleep. Several times throughout the night, I awoke to 35 pounds of Sheltie standing on my chest and a worried little face nose to nose with me, staring urgently but politely: "Excuse me, please. I have to go out again please. Now please.":lol:
 
My three girls are pretty used to our week day routine of getting up at 5 am. They know that means outside and then breakfast. Come Sat. and Sun. it changes as I would like to sleep in until 8 at least, that doesn't work well for them. Usually around 7, one of them is making some sort of noise to wake us up. So I will get up and let them out and then herd them back into the room and tell them to lay back down. Marlie usually ends up jumping up so that her paws are on the side of the bed and stares at me long enough for me to get up and place her on top of the bed, Zoe usually wants up there to at that point. They will lay back down at the foot of the bed until my husband and I decide we are ready to get up. Funny how they all have their own little alarm clocks!!
 
I, too, have a tall bed. Caitie will huff once or twice and then she jumps off the bed. And on the bed ... and off the bed . . . and on the bed ... and off the bed. She will keep this up for a long time.

If I don't respond :sleepy:-- usually around 3 AM -- she will, after about a half hour of bouncing the bed, start to bark. I've learned that if I don't respond to this she will use the living room to relieve herself. She has taught me to respond! Fortunately, these days, dawn is starting to brighten the horizon when she attempts to wake me up and I awaken more easily.
 
Fortunately I have a Queen size bed since it also has to accommodate the three Shelties. :rolleyes2: Pixie likes to sleep right at the top next to my pillow, Ivy at the very bottom, and Barkley is all over the place and usually jumps down during the night. Ivy and Pixie will sleep in as long as I'd like, but Barkley thinks it's his job to wake us all up by 6 and does this by jumping up on the bed on top of me and then hopping back and forth before laying down on top of me so his nose is right in my face. :eek2: If this doesn't work, he commences with a cold and wet "mommie bath." It's a good thing the horses like their breakfast by 7, because sleeping in here is never an option! :no:
 
My mom's bed has a recliner at the foot of it. Sometimes Treader will jump onto the recliner, scramble up the it, and jump off it onto the bed. I think that he does it when he wants a thrill.:lol:
He can jump onto it from the floor too.:sleepy:
 
Not sure I'd classifly this as a punishment in this case

I think she'd prefer to sleep in the room with us but she's fine with sleeping in her crate too. She has a bed in her crate (as well as in our room) and goes inside on her own all the time to sleep. Its where she's gone since she was tiny when we couldn't keep a close eye on her and its the same at night. She's not scolded, she's just put there with one (or more) of her toys. She doesn't object and goes in on her own (she's not pushed), she goes in and lies down and is quiet until we get up. I don't think thats punishment? She certainly doesn't react like it is!:confused2:

No big deal, I try to always keep things posative with Sadie but I also feel that sleep is important and that crating her at night or in the morning when she wakes us is the only way to address the problem, especially since she still spends so much of her time sleeping in there. I think its actually comforting for her, even if she thinks she wants to be elsewhere.

She's still a puppy and thinks that if we're awake then naturally we want to play. I'll never forget one of the rare times she had a night time emergency a couple of months ago, after we came back in from her 3am pee in the dead of winter (even southern ontario winters can be extremely cold), my attempt at gently and quietly guiding her back to bed turned into an all out game of tag, complete with exuberant barking. So much for not waking up my husband. :lol:

It was very funny at the time, I wasn't angry at all but had trouble falling back asleep. Not something I want encourage on a regular basis. :sleepy:
 
Madison sleeps in her kennel at night. No way I'd get any sleep if she slept with me :lol:

In the mornings my son takes her out before he leaves for school. She always comes "knocking" on my bedroom door when she comes back inside and I always get up LOL

On the mornings that my husband is home, whoever gets up first goes and gets her out of the kennel and brings her back to bed with us. She loves laying (barking, jumping, kissing, shaking the covers) in bed with us LOL
