how do you know?

I am sorry you are going through ths tough time, I know it isn't easy. Last year about this time I started struggling with what decision was best for my Chandler. All the people here were so supportive and were there by my side for the next few months until I let Chandler go in April. We will be here for you too, everyone here is amazing.

During this time I searched the internet and found a checklist for quality of life.

I'll be keeping you in my prayers.

I agree with what everyone is saying. Our pup was 14 when we were faced with this decision. It sounds wierd but she told us when it was time. We could tell by the look in her eyes. Plus when we really evaluated the situation we asked ourselves if we were keeping her alive because we just didn't want to loose her or because she still had the will to continue on? I know this is difficult for you, but as long as long as your pup is happy and enjoying life take advantage of every minute you have and give all you love. My thoughts ard with you .

Thank you everyone for your help and words of support. I have been suffered some health issues during Feb and so haven't been able to do anything but continue the antibiotic for Harbour. I am working some things out so that I can afford to do the scope and x-rays of his sinus cavity. I hope to be able to schedule it in the next month or two at the latest.

I still am worried about the procedure and putting Harbour under anesthesia; but at the same time am worried that about what he is going through. Some times he coughs so hard and sounds like he is choking, I cry because there is nothing I can do to help him.

I know he is still feeling fairly good. While I was going through my health issues he was every bit my boy, being the helper he always is. But on my good days he wanted to play and would bring me every toy from his toy basket to play with, even though he would sneeze and cough.

Thanks again

Tues mar 20 is the day.

I take My precious boy in tomorrow for the rhinoscopy. I drop him off at the vet's btwn 7:30 & 8 am. He has to spend the night so i don't pick him up until Wed. I know tomorrow will feel like a very long day and will be strange coming home tomorrow after work. I so look forward to coming home from work and seeing his smile and having him chase my feet until I feed him. :smile2:

I will admit I am still worried, but I do think this is the best thing to do so I know for certain what he is dealing with. He was not happy with me as he wanted his nightly treat and I said no. He will surely pout in the morning when I don't feed him.

Thanks again.

Julie

I read your post & felt like I was reliving what happened to my sweet Anabel. She was one of my 1st rescues. We got her in 2006 & the vet guessed she was about 4 years old. Last March she seemed to be breathing a bit heavy almost like she had a cold. Since I had lost another sheltie (adopted with Anabel) to congestive heart failure I was scared this was it again so off to the vet we went. The vet checked her & saw no issues with her heart or anything else. She just seemed to have good days & bad ones where she'd cough & white mucous would come out & then she'd be fine. She still ate & walked & acted normal. I started her on antibiotics with no improvement. My husband was coming in from out of town so I had to go to the airport to get him. I decided the next day she was going back to the vet. Well, when I got back from the airport I could see she was having trouble catching her breath so I stayed with her & held her trying to comfort her. I could see how scared she was but she looked at me with all the trust & love in her eyes. About an hour after I was home from the airport she passed away in my arms. It broke my heart & I felt terrible guilt that I had somehow failed her. But I have come to terms with it & have learned once again the painful lesson that there are some things we can't fix. All we can do is the very best we can. Love them greatly, protect them fiercely & care for them always. Anabel's legacy is living on in every sheltie that comes after her. I am a better guardian thanks to her. Good luck with your boy & I am praying that he will be back to a healthy & happy place soon. You are all that he could ever ask for.
