How do you rate your contacts?

I'd say mine are good, especially for running contacts. I think in the 4 years I've been trialing, I've maybe had 2 or 3 contacts called

I'd rather rate them from 1-10.

Neither of my dogs miss (knock on wood!), so I'd say they're good...but if I were rating 1-10, this is what I'd say.

Lexi: 8. She never misses, and never bails (knock on wood again!) but she does sometimes release early, and I'd like to improve her speed.

Bentley: 5. He is definitely confused about the criteria (my fault) and doesn't drive to the position the way I'd like him to. But, he doesn't miss anymore, so it's definitely a positive!

Cosmo - 95 % can't remember having been called for one but if we were it would have been an A frame for sure, walk and teter are spot on.

Storm 80% - good on walk and teter but likes to jump off high from the A-frame, getting her to spot and hold is a work in progress, getting her to hold on anything is a work in progress, table down has taken like what seems forever.

I'm going to go for.....non-existent.
Okay, that's not true. But it's more 30/70 or maybe 20/80 as in hit/miss. As of right now, I'm on break, not training at all. It's been nice. I think I was burnt out (probably Koji too).

Shadow still at 10 years old are Spot On.I have never seen this boy blow a contact.Sting on the other hand I will say right now are good but this is in class and we shall see if all the training I have been doing in class with keeping bars up and proofing contacts. We shall see how he does with them in October. My trainer says he is ready.

My dog missed his contacts at competitions like twice.... He doesn't tend to blow it off and jump off too soon, BUT he's supposed to stop in 2o2o and it works perfectly in training. I could run off like crazy, waving my hands, jerk around and he would stop even if I forget to say "zone". So he's 100% in training, but unfortunately he doesn't stop like that in competitions. He touches the contacts, even slows down a bit, but never stays there for too long. It's my fault, though. I realize that I'm too nervous and try to run as fast as I can and he's very very perceptive dog, probably knows well how nervous I am, so he usually takes off before he gets release cue.
I struggle with myself, I cannot calm myself down, so I'm thinking about introducing target into his "contacts training". I need him to concentrate more on his job than my movement, so I'm thinking this might be a way!?
We will see......

I have the same problem. I'm thinking Valium may be a better choice. LOL.
Can you imagine that conversation with the doctor?

Me: Can I have some valium?
Doc: Why? What is the problem?
Me: Well, you see, I get nervous and high strung at dog agility trials and need to calm down for my dog
Doc: Um.......huh?

LOL. Good luck. I bought some L-Theanine for my dog, I've been taking it instead. Seems like it's probably me that needs to calm down.

Hmm...let me know if that works. Agility is fine but my nerves are our downfall during obedience trials :ick! A friend told me she put a martini in her travel mug before a trial once, hoping it would help her relax. She still bombed at the trial but she felt so good from the martini that she just didn't care.

Clancy missed a contact once, in training class. I was shocked! Our big problem wasn't him missing them but creeping so slooooooowly down the obstacle to get to the bottom. My fault as I muddied the criteria for him so much he wasn't sure exactly where the right spot was! You could see him...'is it here, mom?...what about here? nope, so is this the spot?' He's tons better now after we worked on them for a while. In practice he's awesome. He can still get a little creepy in trials but I figure he's reacting to my stress. I stick with the criteria in trials now whereas before it was more of a 'good enough' criteria....
