How far would you go for a Sheltie gathering?

Well I went 21ish hours with 4 dogs.:wink2: I spent a week and visited friends and saw the ocean too. It was my vacation. Do I get a prize?:smile2:

Ok maybe I am crazy. 2 hours in the car, my dogs yawn at that. I go 1 hour one way to agility 1 day a week and 30 minutes 1 way 2x a week.

My parents live 9.5 hours away and I routinely pack up the car and take a road trip. Yes I do live in my car.
You just had to tempt me to steal your dogs then dash my hopes of theft

Just curious as I thought the get together in SC was SUPER fun. Of course I lack the sweet setup they have and well as a party planner I have less skill that as a decorator (and that should scare everyone here)

If things ever slow maybe I can bring Spitfire north to see his brother :biggrin2:

Dr. Shelli definitely wins that one:winkgrin:
that was a 10 hour drive for me so obviously Huntsville is well within my range.
Sheltie Nationals last year was an 8 hr drive.
I drive to PA twice year- 2 day drive with 3 dogs.............

on our recent trip, we got in an agility trial and seminar- the seminar organizer couldn't believe I came from AL but I told her I was just timing my vacation well:yes:

Depending on my finances for hotel costs and the rising costs of gas. I know saturday would be better so the drive home would be relaxing. I would love to attend the one in New Jersey at it would give me a reason to visit family in Pa and kind make the whole journey filled with may functions
Chauncey loves riding in the car so a road trip would be like heaven to him.

Now vacation is a different story. I went through TX, NM, AZ, UT, CO, OK, and back though TX on vacation with F-kap (before we were a multi dog family). I would definitely do that again with all the dogs, but I wouldn't want to go more than 100 miles on a day trip. To much trouble and not enough reward.:o

Oh no I drove it almost straight only stopped over night spend the vacation in SC. It fact, because of car issues(long story) I only stopped 4 times:eek2: on the way home.

I drove over 100 miles since 5 pm today:lol:.

I figure 8 hours. I went to the last Southern Sheltie Gathering, and it took about six hours as I recall. It was worth every single mile, too! :biggrin2:

Interesting responses. To bad my new place still lacks a fence and facilities for people or it would be Sheltie heaven. Trees, squirrels, and lots of zoom room. Some of the ones here might even try to eat the apples or pears

I'm right there with you. I'd go 8-10 hours for one if I made a weekend out of it. I drive 1 1/2 to 2 hrs twice a week for dog classes. My parents are 8 hrs away, fiance's are 10 sooo distance isn't something new

Making me sad~

I promise everyone...the gathering will resume next year. Unforseen things this year,to many to mention.

Getting the gathering together I have to say I have missed it so this year,it is the highlight for both Brian & I.

Ok,now I shall go sulk & pout that we just could not swing it this year.

For those that are new,I have hosted what began as only a southern sheltie gathering. It was a hit the first year with about 16 dogs I believe.
Last year...EPIC attendance of 31 dogs & 17 "sheep"!! Talk about sheltimonium at it's finest.

We had every intention of hosting again this year,as it would have been our 4th year, and it was to be "National Shetland Sheepdog Gathering".
We have welcomed so many folks, from so many states (not just southern states),and yes Dr. Shelli won the prize last year for traveling the farthest with most dogs, and the MOST vehicle problems. You ROCK GIRL!!

Looking forward to next summer, hugs to all~

This thread was in NO way a reflection on you an Brian, actually the opposite. Appreciated ever bit of over the top perfect hospitality.

It is so fun that I wondered about a littler get together closer in. We are approaching critical mass of Shelties on the I65 corridor now and another in Chattanooga. I know Spitfire loves to play with other Shelties and so does Sca (though he still has to monitor me). Right now I would lack shade and tables and stuff like that but if I ever get building at the new place
