How long should I wait for a sprain to heal

Yikes! There is Lyme pretty much everywhere around here. Willow did lose weight at the breeder's. She does appear to be walking a lot better but that's food for thought. What other symptoms did you see? Did Cody recover from the lameness before treatment?

We live in the Lyme capital of the world here in Connecticut and most of my dogs have had it at one time or another (horses and people too). It's so bad here that vets automatically test for it on every dog with the heartworm blood test. It manifests in all sorts of ways, and they can all be different, but the most common is lameness. Lethargy, loss of appetite and general soreness can be others. Our Barkley got Lyme at 6 months old and it has plagued him off and on throughout his life. He's 12 now and severely arthritic from it.

If Willow continues to be off, I'd ask your vet to run the test, which is a simple blood draw. Many vets can do an immediate readout. The med of choice is doxycyline, taken for 3 weeks to a month, which gives improvement literally in 24 hours.

I checked and Willow has had her immunization shots for Lyme disease so I don't think it can be that as a problem. I'm still keeping her quiet-ish but she really is primed to play after all this inactivity.

Good call! Have you considered Vibrant Pets Joint and Muscle? It really helped Bitsy Boodle for a long time.

I hadn't heard of that. I'll take a look. Willow had never had a strain before but she ran non-stop with the other shelties for four days. I suppose that's more than enough to come home stiff and sore the next day.

She's back to prancing on her walks. I love that bouncy, high stepping gait. I'm taking her on shorter, more frequent walks so she can rest between them and, hopefully, not overtax herself.

Good call... if she starts to limp as little it is a shorter distance to get home!
We lover her prancing gate too!
