How ever you feel about raw, dogs are not omnivores. Everything about their mouth and digestive tract says carnivore, and that is how they are classified.

Do you base your whole opinion of the raw diet on your vet's one experience with one dog? You didn't give any details, but any number of things could have gone wrong. If he went into this without knowing what he was doing, he might have made some errors that accumulated over 6 years. Don't assume a vet knows what they are doing. Remember, most of them recommend Science Diet or Royal Canine. Or maybe, as GeeRome said, his dog was one of those rare exceptions.

There are many vets in my area that encourage raw diets for dogs and cats. There are obviously whole websites for the purpose of gathering together countless raw feeders, and many, many dogs of all ages out there thriving on it. All these success stories, against your vet's one failure? Don't you think the failures are going to have the biggest mouths? (As is usually the case). So where are they all? When is it reasonable to take a stand AGAINST such odds?

I'm not saying everyone should feed raw--I don't, yet--but to say that dogs are omnivores and that raw is inherently dangerous for all but a tiny minority of them is just uninformed.

I have the same problem with Wolfie. He's such a weenie. He wants to eat without ever touching it, but I don't want to get him into the habit of having it held for him. I'm going to try and feed him outside tomorrow and see if that helps. The grass or concrete should hold it better.

Cali has been doing kibble in the mornings and a RMB at night for dinner and has been LOVING it! I am surprised that she still takes to the kibble in the morning without nudging it off. I have mostly been giving her chicken in the evenings and I just need to find a way to teach her that nobody is going to take it from her so she can take her time and CHEW! I plan to go 100% raw in August once we move into our new house and have room for a big chest freezer so I am kind of experimenting with it right now but all signs are good! There is a local place that sells pre-packaged frozen 100% raw foods and is aparently one of the only USDA approved facilities to sell raw dog food and has some pretty high marks and the prices seem pretty darn good! I plan on purchasing some of it in a few weeks after I get some more information on it. Cali is going to be starting some obedience training and the place we are going is where I found out about the food so I wanna check it out myself!

Hah! Romeo couldn't take it no more and ate a bit more this morning than he did the last few days! He bent his head down and crunched some bones (again no part of him other than his mouth in contact with the chicken :rolleyes2:).

Treader keeps his paws as far away from his meat as he can while he's eating. He only uses his paws when absolutely necessary.

Geez! You guys should be thankful! My kids get into eating soooo much they all end up with 'raw goo' all over their bibs and feet LOL They clean up pretty good but it is really gross if I have to touch them right after. None of them are afraid to eat though!

 I've got one of those, too! Romeo has learned now to use his paws, but he still stays pretty clean. Gio, on the other hand, digs right in. Raw goobers all the way up his leg feathers!
