How much to give

How much protein, should the dog food I am giving my new puppy, have in it? The food I am giving her now has 22% protein & 12% fat. It is a lamb and rice formula with lamb and lamb meal as the first two ingredients. She is 15 weeks old but on the small side.

The protein level seems fine for a puppy - around 24% is usual as they burn up so much more energy. They get much more protein than adults.

My puppy food is 28% protein and 15% fat. You're going to find that we all feel differently about dog food. Everybody has their own ideas about what to feed the shelties. I like to go middle of the road. No grocery store dog food, but not all protein either.

My boys are both on a grain-free, high protein diet and thriving on it - Horizon Legacy.

Believe it or not, its 40% protein. The main consideration is to monitor their water intake and make sure they drink plenty of fluids.
