How soon or late did you spay??

Issue: Caliber is starting to hump Replyka.
Caliber and Replyka are from the same mom and dad...
Even if they weren't - I don't want puppies!!!

How early or late did you spay your girl?? I don't wanna fix Caliber yet...I don't think. I may have to tho?? I was kinda hoping to see if his test's came back ok once he was old enough so I could possibly breed him. Hmm...I don't know what to do! Help!!
 
How old is Replica now?? They can be spayed quite young but Most usually have it done at 6 months. Kiara had to wait due to some health issues so she didn't get spayed till after her first heat cycle. She was a little over one year when she was spayed.
 
I'm not a breeder or a vet, but I would not spay sooner than 6 months of age. You'll have to be careful though, I've heard that their first heats can some times be silent, with no visible signs that they've gone into heat. Pups can get pregnant on their first heats.

I have to say though Tara, not to seem mean but I would NOT breed an unpapered dog that has liver shunts in his family. Just because he appears ok, doesn't mean that he might not have the problem in the future or that it's not in his genes to pass it on to his kids. :eek2:

Spaying Replyka will not stop his humping behavior. If I remember correctly, he was doing it to Sadie on our last hike, and she was spayed. Neutering Caliber may make the humping behavior better, but not eliminate it. My parent's sheltie still gets friendly with the legs of guests when they come over, if we're not watching him. :rolleyes2:

I must have not updated on the whole liver shunt thing...I miss a lot...I'm never on anymore, but yeah - the problem definitely was not liver shunts!! Thank god.... if it was, I woudln't even THINK of breeding him.

I don't remember Caliber humping Sadie? Hmm, it HAS been a while since our hikes(which is a bit depressing?!!) But, yeah, I suppose you're right about breeding an unpapered dog...I still don't plan on fixing him for another year or so anyways, regardless. My concern is more about not having puppies lol, and I know that some people wait longer then others.

Replyka is 4 1/2 months right now...
