How to keep a sheltie off the furniture?

No piece of furniture is complete without a wee bit of sheltie hair! Seriously though, I gave up trying to keep pets off the furniture years ago.

Phebe pretty much only gets on the furniture when she's invited, or when we're sleeping. :rolleyes2:

Our bedroom gets really warm at night, so I've found her on the leather couch in the loft outside the bedroom and I think a few times she's snuck down to the guest room. I really don't care. I just vacuum the sofa pillows and comforter, and change the pillow cases.

Phebe is right...get rid of the furniture....as I look around the roon and I have 2 shelties as throw pillows at each end of the couch ...lol

Well at the moment Trapp can't jump up on the furniture,but he is up there a good share of the time when we are in the great room. I gave up on Earnhardt a long time ago.

Well sometimes yes. I have restless leg syndrome,so there are times I am up very early. This morning,coupled with the legs,Trapp woke me up by cute puppy kisses on my forehead!

So off he went to go potty.I actually stayed up,he went in his crate slept sound till 6:30am.By the time Brian got home at 7:15am,I had done a load of laundry,and put fresh linens on guest room bed,as we have company coming on Saturday,just overnight. This weekend is our Christmas with my son & wife.

But I may go climb back into bed,as Brian is sound asleep,Trapp is in there with him,Earnie is on the couch,next to the fireplace..Bumper is in her condo. I may get me a power nap!:biggrin2:

When Baxter first came he couldn't jump. He was too heavy. Notice I said when he first came. Now there are two of them on sofa or in Fergus' case in my recliner if I'm not in it. When I want to sit I have to remove him. I gave up too. I cover the furniture and no harm done.
 
We actually chose dogs that we could have on the furniture. With Sage, he was close to 100lbs and very bony so when he was on the couch, you knew it! Same with in the bed. He would try to get in bed with us but there wasn't enough room.

When we got Darby and Deja we made a list of things we wanted and we both agreed we wanted dogs small enough to cuddle with on the couch.
 
Our daughter, Emily, is very outspoken. Her in-laws do not want the dogs on the furniture. Emmy says to them why have dogs then? But see, our Mally has the full reign of the house. He is a 100% family member he is as comfortable as we are, if not more comfortable. Just our opinion, though. Hope I (or she) did not get anyone mad.
 
When we brought Bentley home (6 months) I think he was taught not to get on the furniture. It took him another 2 months to learn to jump on the bed and on the couch.

Lexi, at 11 weeks, is already trying! Of course her brothers get up there to tease her so I can't blame her.
 
I am very well trained.

I actually love when I share my couch with my pets. I always invite them up if they don't come up on their own. Dylan usualy picks a corner of the couch and leans against the pillow to sleep. Once in a while, he gets sore on the side he is sleeping, he gets up and looks at me who is sitting on the other side of the corner where he wants to be now, and gives me the look. Then I'll get up and tells him to go ahead, he moves to the side and lies down leaning against his other side of body. Yes. I am very well trained by my dogs.
