Does anyone else have a howler?
Griffin howls whenever the phone rings, either the home phone or my cell!
He gets into howling stance and his little mouth makes a big "O"!:eek2:
He's great help when the phone rings and someone is vacuuming.... he lets mommy and daddy know there's an incoming call!
 
my sheltie, Amber, howls too!
(not when the phone rings though, she barks at that) She howls when I play the scales on the piano. it's cute. :lol:

Howling Shelties :lol: That has to be cute ! I know some are barkers I never had that with Jewel. Usually when a dog howls it's because the they are not fond of the sound. Or in the case of their ancestors They are calling out to others.:cool:
 
That must be adorable! My full shelties have never been howlers, but I have a sheltie/hound mix that can howl longer than any dog I have ever heard!

We are still trying to catch an audio or video of our little Toby howling. He only does it when he knows someone is home but outside somewhere. He is letting us know we left him inside & he wants to be with his pack! :lol: (It really almost sounds like a yodel!)
 
We just set our digi camera on video and left the area to catch Maggie in the above video, since she would never do it when we are around!
 
Howling Doggie

Our one-year-old puppy, Barkley (believe it or not, we named him *before* we brought him home...) doesn't howl, but he BARKS whenever the phone rings--he also attacks the answering machine--and anything else in the house that beeps plus the oven timer, the TV, the kettle, motocycles or trucks going by, airplanes...you could pretty much say he barks all the time! Compared to him, our other two Shelties are quiet. The phone thing is especially annoying, because he continues to bark after we answer it...as close to you as he can get! I've tried clicker training him to stop it, but I need another hand to answer the phone, the clicker, the treats :eek2: The funniest thing he does is jump up at the TV every time the Empire Rug commercial jingle comes on. I wish I could get it on tape! There's a little animated dog at the end that just drives him nuts. Unfortunately, I don't have a solution, but it's nice to share! :winkgrin:
 
Sheltie Love Call

We had never heard a Sheltie howl; Layla and Bits only bark. Imagine our reaction :eek2: when our newly-arrived rescue girl, Annie Laurie (who was in full heat), awakened us at six am with the most plaintive, yearning howls you can imagine: "Wooooooooooo Aowoooooooo Arrrrrrrroooooooooo!" No doubt, she was sending out the call: "Here I am!! Single mahogany female looking for love. Apply heeeeeerrrrreeeee!" :lol: She's over it now, thank heavens!
