I'd have to hold the umbrella haha. He has enough issues balancing himself on the slope he goes potty on. I'm going to be getting them muttluks because part of it is getting his feet wet and cold in the grass. He doesn't like going potty in the dew first thing in the morning. So, he holds it until after lunch when the sun has dried it up! What a prissy boy!

No raincoat is going to help a dog who hates to go out in the rain. It's probably not the rain on the fur anyway.... more likely the feet and the face. And the jackets I see don't cover the face....sometimes the ears, but that's all.
Sorry, but I think that raincoats are for froo-froo dogs! Not Shelties! My recommendation is to make pup get over it. I know that's easy for me to say, but truly, do you want to be strapping on all the gear everytime it rains? Not me! But that's just my opinion.

Yeah, I agree. I think part of me just wants something to dress up since i don't have real kids haha. I used to dress my cat up in cabbage patch doll clothes all the time heh. I am definitely going to get boots for the winter for them. NY loves to lay on the salt in the winter time. Are Muttluks really the best way to go or is there something else out there that stays on better? I've been reading mixed reviews.

I'm not into dressing up my dog, but I do use a raincoat on Bailey. It's much easier for me to dry her and it keeps my furniture clean. If the rain is heavier than a drizzle, I put the rain coat on Bailey. She has no issue wearing it and will pee/poop with no problem. Without the raincoat, she will constantly shake her fur as we walk to try and dry herself. With the raincoat on, no shaking.
When we return home, I just take off the little velcro strap that keeps the raincoat on and all I have to do is dry her legs and belly. Her whole head and back are already completely dry. Bailey likes to rub herself onmy walls, couch and carpet when she is wet, so I am very grateful for the doggie raincoat. I much rather have a dry doggie rubbing against my couch.
Have you tried petedge.com for a raincoat? I ordered on from there once, but it was too big for Bailey.

Although I just started here, I wanted to give my 2 cents to it as I belong to the one making the expensive custom apparel LOL. I have my own dog boutique and rain coats is something that's very often requested.
All of my dogs wear clothing only for special occasion, as in going to a tradeshow or modeling for my website, my pom loves pajamas in the winter. If your dogs never have worn apparel, starting as a puppy, than the chance to get them to wear clothes and feel comfortable 50/50.
I assume (ASSUME)
that your pup doesn't mind the rain on the coat, but hates the rain on her/his nose, ears or having wet paws. A rain coat won't help there, most puppy's don't even like wearing a hood.
If you believe your pup doesn't like to have a wet coat, then I can give you 2 less expensive alternatives to a pet shop coat you wont be able to return.
1. Go to the dollar store and buy a plastic table cloth and a roll of self sticking velcro. Cut an oval out the table cloth (length of dog + length for the drop down of your choosing x width of dog + length for the drop down of your choosing)
on the smaller part of the oval cut in 3 inches and then trace a circle of the circumference of puppy's neck measurement and cut that out. Cut a strip from table clothes remnants for the belly band and attach to either side of the oval with either a piece of velcro or glue or a few stitches. stick velcro on belly band and neck opening for easy adjustable opening or closure... (I hope this makes sense)
2. go to a thrift store and buy a childrens coat, cut the sleeves off and depending on gender of dog cut the belly opening out

That makes some sense....I do hate the ritual of towelling off my dogs as they try to push into the house, but frankly, I'm not sure I would ever bother because I'm still going to have to towel off their feet and head anyway. I might as well just towel off the whole body. Same with feet. Wet feet don't bother my boys at all....and by the time I pull off their booties, my floors would be wet anyway. The only time booties make sense to me is if your city uses salt on sidewalks and roads.
My preference is get the dogs used to all kinds of weather and get them over it. I'm trying to imagine a breeder with 12 dogs....me thinks she doesn't strap on raincoats on each one before she sends them outside!

This thread is getting pretty funny. Living in So Cal we don't have much weather at all...except sunshine, that is. My dogs love the rain. They also love getting toweled off and will sit and wait their turn.
One of the first rally runs Lexi and I ever did was in the rain. I'll never forget how she was looking up at me, just as she was trained to do, but she was blinking against the raindrops. It was one of the most endearing few minutes of our time together. BTW...we got a 99 and 1st place!

Yeah, I'm not really into "dressing them up" in sweaters and stuff, I was 5 when I put my kitty in cabbage patch clothes lol. I am, however, getting them a halloween costume. Little Bear is going to be a ghost or a holstein cow, and Claussen will be a pumpkin I think.
But I was entertaining the idea of a raincoat because I hate that wet dog smell, and as we are walking in rain, mine stops to shake quite a bit as well. Mine shiver when we get stuck in the rain on a walk. I do want mine to have boots because I do a lot of winter hiking and aside from the salt my area uses, I don't want their feet to get those painful balls of snow inbetween them, or their feet to get cold.
