Cody has been limping occasionally on his left/front paw for about 2 wks now. It seems worse in the mornings, then by the afternoon, I barely notice it or there's NO limping at all. Sometimes, I feel it's just a sprain from jumping and pawing at the door in his crate. I have been watching closely and trying to decide if I need a vet visit or not. I have had limping issues before with the other dogs, and have been given Rimadyl for soft tissue injuries.
Last night, we took them all out for frisbee play and IMMEDIATELY Cody starting limping. I have decided to call the vet, but, I know I can't get him in until at least Monday. Would it be OK to give Ibuprofen till the vet visit??? Is 200 mg OK???
He is VERY active and when he goes out, he still runs the fence continously regardless of the pain. I have checked, no swelling, no tenderness to touch, but I think it's in his ankle....![]()
Been at a dog show all day so I am glad you got the No answer.
But you need to stop letting him out to run the fence. Dogs are very dumb when it comes to injuries. The humans need to limit their active and not let them do anything. They forget they are hurt and end up hurting them selves worse and then end up with chronic issues. Soft tissue injuries are the worse and can take longer than a fracture to heal if not managed right.
Get him to the vet but in the mean time, kennel him and only take him out on leash , no running, no jumping and no playing for a minimum or 2 weeks or as long as your vet recommends. I hope it is nothing serious and Cody is back to his normal self soon.
