.... So, while the procedure is simple, please keep him in your thoughts and pray/hope that all goes well.
Well DS is only 10 and can't be left home alone, so he had to come to the vet with me yesterday. He was in the examining room for a minute and then as soon as Miko started to show signs of being in pain, he went out to the waiting room.
Then, when he heard be telling SO, over the phone, what the diagnosis was and that it could end up being very costly, DS said "Now I feel even worse".
The only bright side in all of this is that DS leaves for Hawaii with my dad & step-mom tomorrow morning, so he won't be here to see and hear what happens over the next week. His mind will be off it and he'll be having fun in the sun and surf.
I was just telling someone, the other day, how great DS is with Miko... how he pays so much attention to him... plays with him for ages... loves him so dearly... I'm not sure who I feel worse for in all of this... DS or Miko?

The moral of my story is that stuff happens some times that's unavoidable, its just one of those things in life that happens occasionally. Your son needs to really get that its not really his fault anymore than it was mine, even though we both feel guilty for what happened. It doesn't mean we're bad dog owners.
I hope some time you can share my story with your DS and that it brings him some comfort that these things happen to other people too.
