Introducing Koji, AKA......

If you move yourself into B you wont get any titles from AKC as they would have already given you the awards from Novice A.

That's interesting. I wonder why they told her that then. Strange. Sorry, I didn't expect you to answer for them, I wasn't thinking when I wrote that.

In your opinion, I have a trial Sept 18-19. Should I wait for the results to post to AKC before I tell the trial secretary to change my entries? Or when the club posts the final numbers? (I sent in my registration prior to this weekends trial, so Koji's listed as Novice everything).

From what I have read on your posts he seems to do well in JWW and myself I would move him up but you know your dog better than I.AKC takes along time to post results. I waited almost a month before Sting got his agility page on the website. You have to do what is comfortable for you. Everyone will give you their opinions wich is great but again do what is comfortable for you.

For JWW, I definitely feel comfortable moving him up. He was doing great on 12 weaves until we stopped working on them. (I talked to my trainer about that, we will do what we did before, set up 2 sets of weaves and the experienced dogs do the 12, the inexperienced do 6, it works well). We just need to work on them again and he'll be fine. One mistake truly isn't that hard, honestly, it'd probably be his entry to his weaves (going to fast) or my error. I definitely have confidence in him for JWW. Standard is a whole other story. LOL. Although we may title in it at the next trial, I'd probably keep him out of it until next year so I can work on his contacts a LOT more.

For the AKC agility rules: Sept 1 2010.

Dogs having attained their first AKC Agility title (Std, JWW, or FAST) must be moved to the Novice B Class (Std, JWW, or FAST) for all trials for which entries have not closed. If entries have already closed on the date the dog obtained its title, the dog shall remain in the class in which it was originally entered or be moved up in level (i.e., Novice to Open) at the request of the owner; subject to the move-up criteria, except as stated in Chapter 1, Section 21 regarding Novice A entries.

Section 21. Entry of Ineligible Dog. (Effective June 1, 2010.) A dog which has been entered in a Novice “A” class for which it is not eligible to be entered in due to class restrictions on the dog or handler may be moved to the Novice “B” class under the following conditions:
The request for the move must be in writing and presented to the superintendent or trial secretary at least 30 minutes prior to the start of each trial.
The request must state the reason and justification for the move from a Novice “A” class to the Novice “B” class.

So if the trial has not closed you must move Koji up to Novice B for standard. If it has closed he can stay in his orginal classes or move up.

I also had to add, I saw a TON of Shelties. Oh it was so fun to see them run. I rarely see Shelties in NADAC. But there were a ton of sizes, colors, etc there at the AKC this weekend. Never seen so many Shelties in SoCal. :)

My hubby did say (about a small tri), "I like that color, but in Miko's size". Ooooo...did he just approve a tri (this would be after Miko's time)? Exciting.

ETA. I also saw one that I really like. It was a bi-blue. And it was pretty much the coloring like Aussie/BC's. I rarely see those on Shelties, the coloring isn't as striking, they were purdy!

Videos!!!

I'm only going to post a couple. You can browse my YouTube to see all of them from the weekend. Can't say it was all successful, some of it was downright bad!

STD - check out those weave poles....ignore almost everything else. hehehe The weaves are right after the chute (okay, after a jump)
His NF run
His NAJ run

Ugh. we're going to have to work on his stay again. he broke almost every single one of them. sigh. You can't tell in most of the videos, but trust me, I'm not late on my turns, etc. It's because dodo brain broke his stay. So frustrating!

Kojii's Videos

I think the videos are great and your JWW was awesome. Just looked on the AKC website and Kojii has his own page now. Check it out.

Could you tell I almost ran over the wing after the weaves? I was a bit far and realized, ohmigod, there's a wing! Koji, come this way, no go that way. LOL. He's a good boy and tried to compensate my error. :)

I saw his page, very cool. I can't wait to see his titles up there too.

I have to tell you guys about that guy, remember, who was making comments about our dogs and how we should keep them in novice. So, he ran his dog in JWW on Sunday. Honestly, she did awesome. She was very focused and controlled. So, when he checked the times, he said, first and twice as fast as the next dog. I told him Koji got his title and we are moving up to Open. He said, "you don't have to, y'know. it's more twisty and turny and stuff, and he may not be ready for that". I just said, "i know, but he's ready for it, jumpers is his thing".

Later that day, he said to me, "wow, koji is fast. he ran faster than my dog." and I said, "like I said, Jumpers is his thing, Open should be easy peasy". (maybe not really, but I wanted him to understand that Open isn't anything new to us, we see those things in NADAC (a bit more spread out), but still, it's just handling technique, Koji can do the rest. (it just means I need to work on my FC's, serpentines, etc).

Ah, it was great. Seriously, because he saw Koji actually run. We were only 2 seconds slower than his dog, however, he ran it perfectly whereas I had a major bobble. I'm sure in the long run, his dog may be faster or even better, but I just felt like saying, "in your face!" I know, not very sportsmanlike, huh? At least now he knows what Koji really runs like and he was impressed. He didn't think Koji was that far along. Hehehe. Is that mean? Oh well. It was nice to see him eat some of his words.

Nice job! He is really looking great...and definitely gaining a lot of speed! Those weaves were awesome!

I have a random question, I saw that you said in one run that you didn't Q because of too many refusals. What are the rules for refusals in AKC? And NADAC? I'm curious because in USDAA, in Starters and Advanced there are no refusals, but in Masters, one refusal results in an NQ.
