Is it Time for a new Vet?

I will echo many others- we have been members of our vet practice for 30 yrs and recently he retired and there have been staffing shortages. When we got our current crew our female was 8+months and not neutered I was given an appt over 3 months away-- I did not want a first heat especially with an intact male around so I went to another vet and got an appt a week later for both dogs--a very much more expensive vet but none the less got the job done. Now I have two different vets which complicated things a bit however, this problem is not only with vets but also human medicine as well-- our hospitals locally are full- no pandemic but full, so elective and even non life threatening but needed surgeries are put off for months. Our urgent care place says they are now acting as PCP and so are ERs. I love my original vet clinic the main vet even makes house calls.
 
Vets have terrible loans from vet school, make less money than human doctors, mostly have to work for large practises with questionable ethics, and have the worst suicide rates of any profession. A friend's wife is a vet; she has a small base salary and a larger bonus on a commission type basis depending on procedures done and tests performed. for So yes, there is a net loss of vets even with new ones graduating as people leave often. I have 2 vets I have used in the past (pre-covid) so they will see my new puppy. but so many places where I live are no new clients (owners). I think the wait for my well puppy visit was over 3 weeks.
