Is this tooth situation common with Shelties?

My vet wants to cut and sand that bottom incisor on both sides, on both of my dogs, because they are doing this pocket thing that you can see here. Both dogs are from completely different bloodlines. Is this a normal Sheltie thing or is it something we're supposed to actually have fixed?

I am afraid the link to the jpg file you sent is not displaying so I can not see to comment properly.

As I have had Shelties for over 20 years I have never heard of this.

That said, I would definitely get a second and even third opinion before I would proceed.
But, that is just me, cautious!
 
6F5E3C19-B81F-475B-9F5F-54FAF6D1219F.jpeg I have attach this image of my Sheltie and can clearly see the difference in your photo. Also, Looks like major plaque on the teeth. Obviously, I needs to be removed as the gums look quite inflamed.

As far as the filing down I would still get several opinions from other experts. I see the pocket you are talking about. I have never heard of filing a dogs teeth.

Just my opinion... I am no expert.

I agree with Gloria. I've never heard of filing down a dog's teeth although it may be perfectly normal if it's necessary. However, when it's suggested on two of yours who are unrelated, that's a bit suspect in my mind. I would definitely get another opinion.
 
I've never heard of filing dog teeth done, either. I know it's super common with horses. I do think the gums look pretty angry. I almost wonder if that bottom tooth is dead. The FB photo in the link makes it look really dark compared to the teeth around it.
