Jump Height

Trax is 18" tall and jumped 20" in competition until he was almost 5 years old with no problem. We practiced at 22" for the 20" class and he always did just fine. If anything, it made him think about the placement of his feet a lot better. Now that he got his challenge measurement, he jumps 16". I practice him at 18" or 20" now. In USDAA if he was in the Championship division, he'd have to jump 22". I'm confident that he could do it and would without any complaints but I'd rather not do that for the long term, so I jump him in Performance, BUT to help my daughter get her Starters Relay Q, I may enter him in Championship just for that one Q and team up with her since her dog is only 14.75" and jumps 16 :smile2:

I went to Susan Salo seminar while back she predicted very short jumping career to couple dogs right off the bat. Am not sure the answer can be stereotyped ¨ insert so many¨ above dog´s height I feel comfortable jumping my dog¨ or something like that. There are just too many variables that go into jumping and what are handler´s particular goals are. And if we look into venues USDAA and NADAC courses look like they do not even belong to same sport.
there was fantastic class by Helen King but am thinking current one is the last one she is running

Edan and CJ are both just over 14 inches tall (14.5 and 14.25 respectively). Because of their height they are either just above or just below a jump height limit depending on venue.

Quite honestly, I'm happier with them jumping 12 inch jumps rather than 16 inch jumps, especially now that they are getting older. In venues like AKC the broad/spread jump and triple jump are a lot of harder for them then most other dogs in the 16 inch class. Often Edan is one of the few smaller dogs, if not the smallest dog, in the 16 inch class locally.

I've seen Edan jump a 24 inch bar cleanly. He definitely can jump 16 inches efficiently. My preference is for 12 inches over a weekend long trial in a venue with more than two or three runs per day.

Storm Is 13.5 inches and Jumps 16", I feel that that is a big jump for her especially the spreads , I could run her as a specials and jump her at 10" but for now I am keeping her as a regular. At 14.5 inches Cosmo jumped 16" easily till he got overweight and then hurt his front shoulder, so he's at 10" now, he will still jump 16" easily but I am not Comfortable with him doing it anymore now even though he's the lost weight. We don't have the option for a 12" hight here which I feel would be just Ideal for both of them actually.

My dog is 13.5'' and in AKC she jumps 12''. I love that she jumps below her withers. That's really too bad that they don't offer 12'' jumps by you. Personally I think that all venues should have it set that dogs jump at or below their withers.
