Keiran and I started our agility journey

Oh how exciting! I'd love to see videos if you get a chance to take any. I'm just starting Angus out on a (potential) agility journey and doing similar stuff, although not quite as advanced as Keiran :wink2:. He is a bit older but had done nothing like this before so it is all foundation, foundation, foundation right now and it would be fun to be able to compare notes - also with the rest of you guys with starter pups! :yes:

Epic didn't start doing anything at all with agility until he was 14 months old and he is pretty high drive so I don't think a few months delay makes much difference.

Can't wait for the next instalment now...:pop
 
My puppy is actually turning a year old tomorrow (how did THAT happen so quickly????)!!!! She's been doing foundation work since she was about 3 months old. She's just now starting to do full height contacts (though she has trouble doing her 2 on 2 off with a full height A frame - she hasn't learned to slow down yet and has a lot of momentum coming over the top. She understands she's supposed to do a 2 on 2 off but needs to build up a little more strength). She has a terrific 2 on 2 off from the teeter and dog walk. She's doing 12 weaves independently and has started sequencing. She understands her release word. I'm hoping she'll be ready to start trialing the end of the year, but I don't want to rush her. She'll be ready when she's ready, and a long career is much more important to me than an early career.

She sounds like Celtic. He can do 2o2o but he gets so excited he forgets to slow down and his butt goes almost over the top. We are still working on weaves he thinks they slow him down too much and does not see the point. otherwise we are doing great. Like you he is ready when he is ready.

Spirit LOVES weaves! She bounces through them like a champion. Usually ;-) She does still have her baby dog moments, but weaves were something she mastered early on. I wish I could take the credit, but she really just figured them out herself. The problem I have with her is that she's so incredibly fast that my timing has to be PERFECT. If I'm late cuing her (and it doesn't take much to be late), she takes off and zooms around the course like a maniac. And trying to catch her at the end of the run is difficult too. She doesn't like to stop. I'm in the process of teaching her to jump into my arms after she finishes - it's the only way I'm going to reliably get her leashed up and off the course when she's trialing.
 
Lacey and I started foundations a few months ago. After a bit of a slow start she is doing really well. She does (low) jumps, the A frame, dog walk and chute. It really helped her when we started working with jumps and tunnels at home. She is doing pretty well with the 2on2off as well. Just starting to work on weaves too.

We have private lessons and she has been boarding at her trainer when we have been out of town so she has really gotten used to staying there and is very happy.

I am extremely happy with my trainer and I'm lucky to have found someone so close to me.

She is getting spayed this week and I'm sure it will be several weeks until we can get back to working, but she has a really good memory so I'm sure we won't lose much time.

Agility is very new to me and I'm really enjoying it too.
I f you had told me a few years ago that I would be running with my dog in an arena I would have said you are nuts!!
 
Keiran sound like a total natural...what a joy it will be working with him!! You have a really exciting journey ahead. :smile2:
