Keiran's Begin Neutered Today

I'm a nervous Sheltie mama today... Keiran's begin neutered today. I dropped him off a little after 7:00 and should have an update on how he's doing by 1:00.

I hate days like this because it's a break in his routine. He was obviously nervous because (1) he got put back in his crate with no breakfast while Glen was getting ready for work and (2) I carried him down from the bedroom to the living room so he couldn't get to the water this morning. Then there is a simple fact that he's in surgery. Sure, it's routine but it's still surgery.

The house is also very quiet without the little one here.

I can't wait until he's back with me even though the forced crate rest will be difficult on all of us.
 
I understand your concern. It's hard enough to prepare ourselves for surgery when we understand the fasting rules. By now you will have heard that your pup came through fine and will soon be on the mend. :hugs
 
It doesn't matter how routine the surgery is, you still worry. Heck I worry just when they are having dental cleanings under anesthesia. But youth and health are on Keiran's side and I'm sure he came thru with flying colors.

You are right, it's the recovery period that's hard with a young one!

Late update because of work meetings.

I did hear from the vet and Keiran is out of surgery and doing well though a little wobbly when he tries to stand up. I can pick him up any time after 4.
 
Hopefully Keiran is home by now and Mom can relax! We all worry anytime one of our little ones goes under for any reason and I'm happy for you (and Keiran) that this day is over. :hugs

Keiran update:
He's definitely feeling better already. He's already broken the 'no stairs' and 'no jumping' rules for recovery. Yesterday, in addition to trying to jump into the car as soon as we left the vet's office (our Saturn SUV which is higher off the ground than our VW Jetta none the less) that evening, after his (leashed) walk, he came in and jumped on and off the couch before we could re-crate him. Today he was up and down the steps following Glen around (only 6 steps but steps none the less).

His constantly wagging tail is also back. He was confined to the dinning room/kitchen area while we were getting ready for work (gotta love baby gates!) and he was prancing around waving his flag (AKA tail). If you spoke to him you got tail wags in return as well as lots of happy wags when being scritched.

It won't be long before he starts complaining about the imposed crate rest; which is necessary to keep him from running and jumping. I have a stock of bully sticks and other things to keep him occupied when that happens.

And the complaining begins! :lol: He was not happy about being in his crate while I was making my lunch. I couldn't really keep an eye and he'd have been back in the crate within 15 minutes so I left him in his crate. The sad puppy whimpers break my heart but the crate is necessary. :sadsmile: Glen let him out while he was making lunch and having breakfast. That gets him about 30 minutes out and about in a monitored, restricted space.

I did sit on the floor with him last night playing, cuddling and puppy kisses before Glen and I had to leave for a show. I kept him on his leash so he couldn't jump on the couch but still had freedom of movement. He also got to win every game of tug because as soon as he started to tug, I let go. The best part was when I had both boys giving me kisses at the same time. :biggrin2:
